As the northernmost island of Japan, Hokkaido is famous for its magnificent natural scenery and unique cultural experience.

Scenic experience: You will take a cruise between the blue sea and blue sky of Hokkaido, as if floating in a dreamlike painting. Along the way, you can see spectacular volcanic islands, pure lakes, dense forests and leisurely seagulls, each of which is the ultimate display of natural beauty. Especially in summer, the sea of flowers in Hokkaido complements the blue sky, while in winter it is a fairyland covered in silver, which makes people linger.

Boarding Points and Main Stops: As the tourist center of Otaru, Chuo Bridge is the departure and arrival point for cruise ships, making it easy for visitors to take a cruise. From the pier operated by the Toyako Steamship Company, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the lake. Cruises departing from Utoro Port allow you to enjoy the pristine nature of the Shiretoko Peninsula.

Boat ride time:Depending on the route, the Otaru cruise usually takes from 20 to 90 minutes, and the one-way trip of the Toyako Steamship's Nakajima sightseeing cruise takes about 25 minutes. The Shiretoko Peninsula cruise departing from Utoro Port offers a sailing time of about 60 minutes.

Here, Explore the natural wonders of Hokkaido and experience a one-of-a-kind marine adventure.

Special Moments of Winter Travel in Sapporo & Otaru

The winter in Sapporo and Otaru was as beautiful as a scene from a fairy tale. In Sapporo, walking through the snow-covered Odori Park, we could admire the fantastic snow sculptures of the Sapporo Snow Festival. The cityscape covered in white snow was truly romantic, and a bowl of warm miso ramen felt even more special in the cold weather. In Otaru, the most memorable moment was walking along the canal. The canal illuminated by soft lights on a winter night was incredibly romantic, and the snow-covered streets looked like a scene from a movie. Walking through the streets of Otaru, filled with small glass craft shops and music box stores, made time feel like it was passing slowly. The winter trip to Sapporo and Otaru left warm memories, and I wish to experience the beauty of this place once again.

The Ōta Jinja

The Ōta Jinja

It is a mountain sacred site with the oldest history in Hokkaido, and is said to have been founded during the reign of Kakichi (1441-1443) in a cave near the summit of Mt. Ota (485m above sea level), which towers over a cliff. In the past, the Ainu people living in this area called the mountain spirit ''Otakamoi" and worshiped it as the guardian deity of Ezochi. In 1453, Nobuhiro Takeda, the founder of the Matsumae domain, landed in the Ota area and saw the Ainu people praying towards the mountain, so he climbed the mountain himself and discovered that there was a spirit inside the cave. It is said that this belief began in 1454 when he gave the honorific title of 'Ota Daigongen" and spread the word to people widely.

Iyayoriko Shrine

This time, I would like to introduce a recommended place in Sapporo, Hokkaido! This is a shrine located in Hokkaido, and it is very spacious and highly recommended. I visited during the day, but if you go in the autumn, you can see the beautiful autumn leaves, which was wonderful. It is also a very calm shrine, so it was nice to be able to take your time and relax. Please be sure to visit at least once. Hakodate|You are truly breathtaking.

Hakodate|You are truly breathtaking.

My favorite place in Hokkaido besides Otaru A tranquil seaside town like this Can definitely gain more recognition in Hokkaido There are no specific attractions, just wandering around will surprise you I really resist the kind of stressful itinerary where you have to take photos and edit them everywhere Strolling around casually and relaxing Everywhere is naturally beautiful, making you feel happy and refreshed I really recommend everyone to come and spend two days here One day is really not enough Also, the seaside wind is indeed very strong, it feels colder than Sapporo and Otaru As for the Joker Burger... it doesn't taste very good, I kind of miss the McSpicy Chicken Burger

Hokkaido 3D2N - Lavender, Lavender, and Flower

Looking for a perfect summer escape in Japan, where you can beat the heat and take endless photos in gorgeous lavender fields? Welcome to Hokkaido! ❤️ We traveled from Tokyo, taking shinkansen (thanks to our JR Pass) from Tokyo Station to Hakodate, and then onward to Sapporo. If you're short on time, you might want to consider flying directly into Chitose Airport. The moment we arrived in Hokkaido, we felt an immediate sense of comfort. In the summer, Sapporo's temperature was a pleasant 22-23°C, making it the perfect retreat from the heat. 🗓️Itinerary Scheduling Since we only had a few days in Hokkaido, here’s our itinerary: Day 1: Travel to Sapporo via train. Relax and explore the city at a leisurely pace. Day 2: Spend the day in Furano, where the endless lavender fields will leave you in awe. Visit the famous Furano Lavender Field and the vibrant Shikisai no Oka, known for its beautiful flower gardens. You’ll want your camera ready for this one! Day 3: Start the day with a visit to the Asahi Beer Museum and then indulge your sweet tooth at Shiroi Koibito Park. Afterward, take a trip to the charming coastal town of Otaru before heading back to Tokyo. #japantrip

Unexpectedly hot Asahikawa, expected beauty

Unexpectedly hot Asahikawa, expected beauty

Taking advantage of the children's summer vacation, we planned to escape Tokyo and go to Asahikawa to avoid the heat. The day before departure, the weather looked cool, and it was indeed so when we got off the plane. Unexpectedly, the temperature soared to 30 degrees in the following days. But, even so, Asahikawa is still worth a visit! On the first day, we took the Norokko train to Lavender Farm, walked a few minutes to Tomita Farm, and chased the last acre of lavender in summer. We had lavender ice cream, melon 🍈 ice cream, and took the kids to check in one tractor 🚜 after another. This check-in point was basically completed ✅ On the second day, we arrived at Biei. After getting off the station, we rented a parent-child bicycle and headed to Shikisai no Oka. Along the way, we enjoyed a full view of the blue sky and green fields. I can only say that these crops are so well-behaved, looking fluffy and particularly cute. Shikisai no Oka is also quite beautiful. For 900 yen, you can ride the sightseeing car and see the alpacas 🦙. The old man driving the sightseeing car would stop at the best photo spots, giving us plenty of time to take pictures 📸. He really understands the tourists' psychology, haha. After finishing here, if the weather is not too hot, you can continue to leisurely ride through the fields. Unlike near the airport, there is no smell of cow dung here, and on the undulating roads of the highlands, you can see various different sceneries. In summary, Biei was our favorite place on this trip. Later, we also went to Asahiyama Zoo, the cheese factory, and Ningle Terrace. To be honest, the points are too far apart, and for friends who didn't rent a car, it's not worth going. Finally, besides checking in, enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way!

Cherry on the Cake

#japantrip While Japan is no short of reasons or places that make it the world's most beautiful destination for a holiday (or just about anything for that matter). Those who haven't been to Hokkaido up north are missing the most beautiful parts of this gorgeous country. The north especially during various seasons transforms into something else. You have it witness it yourself. Like with most other prefectures, you will have plenty of options. Yes, this is going to be slightly more expensive than other places. Also I would recommend driving around to get to places, otherwise shared transport. Whatever works for you. Hokkaido is not to be missed! #japantrip #hokkaido #cherryblossom2024 #japan #winter

Shinsen-numa Marsh Parking Lot & Observation Deck

Shinsen-numa Marsh Parking Lot & Observation Deck

The walking path to the observation deck was not well maintained. There is a path, but you have to push through bamboo bushes that are about as tall as you are, and from the observation deck you can just see a little bit of the scenery through the trees. This is a store that is only open seasonally. In addition to ramen and curry, you can also enjoy soft serve ice cream and coffee at the rest house. It's a little secret spot. Recommended for standing on the drive.
