🐴 Cambridge Town|Daily life in a New Zealand town surrounded by horse racing and forests
📍 Location
Cambridge is located in the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island, about 25 minutes' drive from downtown Hamilton. It is a town famous for horse racing, rowing, and forest greenery.
🚗 Transportation
Driving is the most convenient way. It takes about half an hour to get there from Hamilton on SH1. If you start from Auckland, the drive takes about 2 hours.
📝 Personal experience
Cambridge is the kind of town that looks "peaceful" at first glance, but when you walk in, you will find that it is actually very elegant. The streets are lined with red brick houses, retro bookstores, small flower shops and cafes, and there is a kind of English country charm when walking. When the weather is good, the sun shines on the old street, and the light and shadow are intertwined, which is very comfortable.
Victoria Square in the town is a great place to relax, with spacious lawns, statues and historical buildings. It is also recommended to walk around Lake Te Koutu. The trail around the lake is not long but very quiet. You will also meet many people picnicking or walking their dogs.
Because this is a major breeding ground for New Zealand racehorses, you can often see "horse" elements on the road. Many ranches are open for visits, and there are even horse-related museums. If you have enough time, you can drive 15 minutes to the "Tree Church", which is a church built with living plants. It is super dreamy.
In short, Cambridge is the kind of town where you can slow down, drink a cup of coffee quietly, and look at the green trees and lakes. There is no hustle and bustle of the big city, but there is a kind of inadvertent elegance, which is worth a detour to experience.
