Besides, it rained heavily in Hualien early in the morning, so I had to find a place to visit temporarily. Today's schedule is to go to Hualien in the morning, Yilan at noon, and Taipei in the evening to have New Year's Eve dinner at my brother-in-law's house. Afterwards, we decided to visit the DAKA Park of Taiwan Cement. After the visit, we can go directly north to Yilan. In fact, the DAKA Park of Taice is a must-go place when going north to Yilan and Taipei, and south to Hualien and Taitung, so both tour buses and ordinary tourists will come here to rest and use the toilet. Although I travel to Hualien several times a year, I haven't been here for a long time and it looks a little different than before. There used to be a night market in the evening, but it has now moved to the Dongda Night Market. There are still some construction projects going on in the park. There is a boat-shaped children's play area in the park, which seems to have been just built. Some of the game equipment is still wrapped with protective molds, but when the children saw these play equipment, they rushed over without saying a word. Maybe it was because of the hot weather that we stopped playing on the amusement equipment after a while. There are also some art installations in the park that look pretty good in the photos. Visitors can also see traditional Japanese architecture such as houses, ponds, torii gates, and shrines. Additionally, the shopping area sells various products made by Taiwan Fertilizer, which make great souvenirs for tourists visiting Hualien. The entire coastline features a rocky coastal erosion landscape, including monocline hills, sea erosion trenches, potholes, and intertidal zones, all the way to Shitiping Harbor, a prime whale watching spot. Our itinerary includes about an hour's stay, perfect for a leisurely walk and taking photos. We also plan to enjoy some seafood at the fishing port! Previously, my impression of Shitiping was limited to the popular Slow Inn. I had never actually entered the Shitiping Scenic Area. This time, the tour guide arranged for a one-hour stay, allowing us to truly experience the grandeur of the coastal erosion landscape. The unique scenery, with its gray-white rocky formations resembling a lunar landscape, is quite photogenic. This was also my first visit to Shitiping Fishing Port. By noon, there was no fish market to explore, only a few seafood snack stalls by the pier and some whale-watching boat operators. It was quite refreshing. Perhaps next time, I should plan a whale-watching trip.

#2月好地方2025 Come to Shimen Cave to take photos of the "march car"! The Shimen section of the Hualien-Taitung coastline is located 4-5 kilometers north of Shiti Fishing Port. It is named because there are huge sea caves in the coastal reef area here, which are shaped like a gate. Its formation is the reef coast of volcanic rock layers, which has been eroded by waves over the years, forming sea caves, sea trenches, potholes, sea platforms and other landforms, as well as rich marine ecology and algal reefs. Shimen Cave has three openings. A huge banyan tree grows at the upper opening, and the opening on the sea side is called the "March Cave" because of its shape that resembles a march car. Together with the sea erosion grooves on the outside of the sea cave facing the Pacific Ocean, some of which resemble pugs or hearts, they are all must-see photo spots! #HualienTravel #Shimen Cave

We embarked on a three-day, two-night trip to Hualien and visited Dashibi Mountain on the eastern coast. Located at the southern end of the Qizai Coastal Recreation Area, this small hill juts out from the coastline. Our guide mentioned that it looks like a big nose and somewhat like a turtle shell, hence the names 'Dashibi Mountain' or 'Turtle Hermitage Mountain.' Dashibi Mountain has a hiking trail that loops around to the seaside. Most of the steps are made of wooden sleepers and stones, with gentle slopes that make for a comfortable walk. It takes less than an hour to complete the trail. At the summit, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Highway 11, Qizai Bay, and the Pacific Ocean. The view is excellent, but there's no shade, so it can get quite hot! Across from the parking lot, there's a stall selling indigenous sausages. Our guide recommended the grilled flying fish roe sausages, so we bought some to try. They have a unique sea flavor and are quite delicious.

#2月好地方2025 During a three-day and two-night trip to Hualien, we came to a small attraction on the east coast, the "Qin Buzhizi Sea Trail". The entrance is located next to the Xinfeng Tunnel. The plank road is built vertically along the cliffs on the sea with a steel structure and reinforced glass. It is about 20 meters long and the entire road is transparent. There are rock walls above and sea tides below. Walking on it is a bit scary! The origin of the name "Parents Don't Know Their Children" is a bit sad. According to legend, in the past, there was a tribal woman who was carrying her child on her back while walking through this ancient trail. As there was no rope on the wooden bridge, she could only rely on vines growing on the cliff to move forward. The woman was too nervous and only found out after she passed the ancient trail that her child was gone! Although the trail is no longer dangerous after reconstruction, you need to wear a safety helmet before setting foot on the ancient trail to prevent hitting the rock wall above. The old Xinfeng Tunnel has been transformed into a small store and exhibition area. I love the chaise lounge in the room, perfect for lounging while using your phone or watching TV. The bathroom is equipped with separate wet and dry areas, as well as heating and drying facilities, which is very considerate. 🚗 Convenient location: There is a Taiwan Tourist Shuttle bus stop nearby that can take you to Taroko Gorge. It's a 10-minute walk to Xincheng Train Station and a 20-minute walk to the city center. If you wake up early, you can even walk to the beach to watch the sunrise. 🍽️ High-quality meals: Although the breakfast selection is not extensive, all ingredients are natural and unprocessed. They offer freshly cooked eggs, stir-fried vegetables, pumpkin soy milk, and homemade blueberry yogurt with whole blueberries. You can feel the care the hotel puts into providing the most natural ingredients for their guests. We also chose to have dinner at the hotel restaurant, and the set menu for two included a platter of salted chicken and pork, tofu pot, and an appetizer platter, all of which were delicious. 🌹 Beautiful backyard garden: On sunny days, the light and shadows on the garden's pine trees and various plants are stunning! You can also play with the hotel's pet cats 🐈, but make sure to apply mosquito repellent as Hualien is known for its black mosquitoes! 👍 Five-star service: They offer shuttle service to and from Xincheng Station. On the day of our arrival, we were the only ones using the shuttle, and we were grateful to the driver for taking us to buy Jiaxing lemon juice. During check-in, the front desk staff provided freshly made juice, and in the afternoon, the lobby area even offered afternoon tea with delicious Hualien watermelon 🤤.

#2月好去地方2025 Hualien is surrounded by mountains and the sea. When I came to Hualien before, I stayed in the city or the valley. This time, I wanted to do something different and stayed at the "Kadda Hotel 熙宾行旅/Hualien Seaview Hotel" near Hualien Port, which is the seaside hotel with an infinity pool. Xibin's sea view is very strong, and you can directly overlook the blue of the Pacific Ocean, which is refreshing. Beautiful view, romantic atmosphere, quietness and great value for money are the comments of guests on Xibin. However, the location is relatively remote, so if you want to visit Dongdaemun Night Market, you still need transportation. After the Hualien earthquake last year, the number of tourists dropped sharply, so room rates are much cheaper and easy to book. A double room that originally cost 5,000 or 6,000 yuan can now be had for less than 2,500 yuan, and comes with breakfast for two, which is really a good deal. The room is simply decorated, but has a balcony with sea view. Sometimes you don’t need to arrange too many things when traveling.
