Tiantai Mountain is very suitable for a short weekend trip from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, it is relaxing and comfortable. Recommend restaurants and coffee shops I've eaten at 1. This is a lovely easy hike, around 2 hours from start to finish. The top of the hike is a glorious waterfall with a natural granite bridge that’s been carved out from centuries of water passing through. There is a nice, although newly “restored” temple at the top which has a gorgeous Japanese red maple blooming when we were there. Ancient arched bridges and big granite stepping stones across the water make this a majestic walk that transports you back in time. Tickets are 60rmb each and there weren’t many tourists around, so it was nice and quiet for us!

Nestled in the Tiantai Mountains this lovely Huading National Forest Park. You can drive through it, park and take some easy strolls into the mountainside. There is a lovely azalea terrace, some rice fields and a short walk up the mountain with some nice mountain views. There is a nice temple yet it’s not open to the public but has some of the oldest red spruce trees I’ve seen in China. The road to get there is a nice windy road with gorgeous vistas on either side. Looks like it would be beautiful in the winter full of snow. Would recommend hiring a car to get there as it’s off the beaten track. Tickets are 50rmb each – walks range at 1hour at the most and it’s an easy “hike”.

I visited Guoqing Temple, which was first built in 598 during the Sui Dynasty. This is the original temple of the Tiantai sect, one of the oldest sects in Chinese Buddhism, and is also the birthplace of Tiantai Buddhism in Korea, Japan, and around the world. The main building that remains today is said to have been rebuilt in the 12th year of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty (1734). I didn't have much religious interest, but the experience of walking around a historic place was meaningful enough, and on the way back, I could quickly get off on a shuttle tour for only 2 yuan, so I could leisurely go there without worrying about my stamina. The way there was also great. The view of the rice fields and mountains, the trees that provided shade, and the well-maintained walking path. Even though I went in the middle of summer, I think it was even better because I could walk along the path without sweating profusely. Although it was a short time, I walked slowly in a quiet atmosphere, and I felt like I had come face to face with the history of an old temple. Even if you don't have any special beliefs, it is a meaningful and leisurely place to visit as if taking a walk.

In the middle of summer, on a bright sunny day, I climbed the Tiantai Mountain Waterfall and sweated so much that I almost lost my energy. The stairway course was quite long and steep, so I wanted to give up halfway, but as soon as I passed all four waterfalls and reached the top, I was amazed by the cool air and the spectacular scenery. Each waterfall has its own charm, and especially the part where you walk along the mountain after climbing and the part where you cross the two suspension bridges were difficult but impressive moments. After that, there was an elevator that would take you right down near the top, so I was able to recover my energy and come down. The climb was really hard, but the mountains, waterfalls, and the scenery from above were all so beautiful that it was worth the effort 🥺⭐️ The weather was so clear that the pictures turned out really well, and the water streams sparkling under the strong sunlight are memorable. However, since the temperature was 36 degrees, I thought it would be really hot, and I recommend going in the summer after considering your physical strength and weather condition. It was so hard for me, but I thought it was a really good decision to go up there, and it was a place you should definitely experience at least once.

If you are looking for a good value and clean hotel in Tiantai County, I recommend Senye Hotel! I stayed there for a total of 4 nights and was very satisfied overall. The hotel atmosphere was quiet and private, so it was good to rest, and the interior design was modern and sophisticated. In particular, the indoor bathtub was really luxurious and had an emotional atmosphere, so I highly recommend it for couples! The bathroom and toilet were both clean and well-maintained, and the quality of the amenities, such as the hair dryer and amenities, was good, so I was very satisfied. There was also a vending machine in the hallway, so it was convenient to be able to use it right away when needed. One thing to note, however, is that it is not in a busy area, so it is convenient to take a bus or taxi! It is good to consider this when planning your travel route. Still, for this price range and this level of quality, I highly recommend it. I would definitely visit again!
