Huia Beach｜A Tranquil Morning by the Mudflats and Forest Reflections

Instead, it reveals mudflats and reflections during low tide, creating an illusion of stepping into a natural canvas. My first visit was in the early morning, and the bay was serene. The mirror-like mudflats reflected the forest and sky, making time feel as though it had slowed down. The bay is lined with banyan trees and pohutukawa (the old trees in the photos have a particularly atmospheric vibe). You can picnic under the trees, watching kids or dogs explore the mudflats. Near the river mouth, you can walk to the cliffside and spot small kauri trees sprouting, hinting at the vitality of this land. I especially enjoy strolling on the mudflats during low tide, collecting shells as I go. The breeze is gentle, and occasionally, an angler passes by or a kayaker glides across the water, creating a peaceful scene. Many Reddit users also recommend this spot as a "less rough beach option.".
