Fungzhuangchang No.69 – Beijing Jajangmyeon

While we were walking in the light rain on Nanluoguxiang Pedestrian Street, we accidentally came across a Michelin Guide sign in front of a small shop. The shop was Fungzhuangchang No.69, an original Beijing-style jajangmian noodle shop that was definitely different from the Korean version I had tried before. The star of the shop’s menu is definitely the jajangmian noodles, served in a thick black sauce with minced pork and vegetables, stir-fried hot in one dish. The taste was salty and rich, a bit greasy, but the “pickled garlic” became the table’s specialty to help cut the greasy taste. When eaten together, the tastes went well together without needing to add anything else. Almost every table in the shop ordered the same menu, which was a cute sight and made us realize that “this is a must-try”. We also tried fried rice crackers. Although the texture was a bit chewy, it added some crunchiness to the meal. Another interesting thing is that the shop also sells its own brand of yogurt, which is highly recommended for those who want to lightly cleanse their palate after a meal. In terms of convenience, we have to give it a thumbs up. Because the food ordering system at the restaurant uses a QR Code to scan on the table and then pay via WeChat or Alipay immediately.
