Spanish Central Plateau Walk ~ Teruel (Region) The graceful silhouette of the ancient town of Castellote rises from the harsh region of Maestrazgo, standing on a steep cliff that slopes down to the valley of the Guadalope River. Its old town has been declared a cultural heritage. Castellote has a strong medieval atmosphere and is now one of the most interesting tourist attractions in the Maestrazgo region. The main attraction in the city center is the ruins of the Templar Castle. Narrow sloping streets lead us through its rich traditional architecture (roofs and balconies with decorative eaves and fountains with Gothic sculptures). Among the most famous buildings are the Church of San Miguel (Levantine Mediterranean Gothic), which has a beautiful porch and rose window, and the Town Hall, which has a traditional Gothic pointed arch market area.
