📍Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins

The weather was bad so I couldn't go to Lake Biwa Terrace, so I stopped by to kill time, and it was much more worth seeing than I thought it would be 👏🏻 It's become one of my favorite places on my trip to Fukui, and it's in my top 3. There was even a photogenic spot with an umbrella and a windmill for a limited time. The grounds are large, and you can walk around the ruins of the city from the Sengoku period. The restored gate, the streetscape, the photogenic spots, and the museum were all great, so it's a shame that it's not well known! 😤 . . 📍Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins 🗺️Fukui, Japan 🕑9:00-17:00 💰¥330 #FuriTabi #HokurikuTrip #DomesticTrip

Ichijōdani Asakura Ruins

Not easy to get to but well worth the trip if you are into Japanese history and can speak and understand a even a little Japanese. This is the site of a castletown that flourished deep in the mountains and nothing remained. Now there are a number of reconstructed residences and a large portion of the site has been excavated showing pillars, walls, wells, and so forth. A small museum has relics of medieval life. There is a small waterfall called 'Ichijo-daki' deep in the woods, about 3 km from Ichijodani Asakura Ruins. It is quite small waterfalls compared to other waterfalls I’ve visited but definitely worth a visit. #givethanks #givethanks
