Floating torii gate of Miyajima Island

Miyajima is located near Hiroshima, requiring less than 30 min by train, followed by a 10-min ferry ride. It is a very beautiful island that is worth visiting, and it would be preferable to stay one night on the island. I would recommend the following attractions on the island: Itsukushima Shrine, which is famous for its distinctive floating torii gate. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is one of the most iconic images of traditional Japan. This a torii gate like no other in Japan, and is a great photo taking spot. Mount Misen is the highest peak on the island, and is 535m high. I took the 2-way ropeway (2,000 yen/pax) up and down the mountain, though there is a hiking option as well. Even with the ropeway, there is a 30-min climb to the summit, which is well worth the hike due to the amazing views from the top. Miyajima is famous for its oysters and eels.
