Dashan Pagoda

Located at the City Square on Jiefang Road in Yuecheng District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, Dashan Pagoda is an ancient architectural relic from the Southern Song Dynasty. Originally built in 504 AD during the Liang Dynasty, the pagoda and its accompanying temple were destroyed by fire in 1197 AD. They were subsequently rebuilt in 1228 AD and again in 1403 AD during the Ming Dynasty, with further renovations carried out during the Qing Dynasty. Standing approximately 40 meters tall with a base width of about 4 meters, the hexagonal, seven-story pagoda features a mixed brick-and-wood structure in the traditional pavilion style. Despite enduring centuries of weathering, snow, rain, and fire, including the severe typhoon of 1956, Dashan Pagoda remains remarkably intact—a testament to its exceptional construction quality. It holds significant value for the study of Southern Song Dynasty architecture in the Shaoxing region. On October 16, 2019, Dashan Pagoda was officially designated as part of the eighth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level by the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
