Taiwan's Popular Dan Zai Noodles - Du Xiao Yue

"Du Xiao Yue" originated in Tainan in 1895. The name comes from the fishermen who, during the "small month" when they couldn't go out to sea, sold noodles to make a living. This practice was called "Du Xiao Yue." Today, "Du Xiao Yue" has become a famous Taiwanese chain specializing in Dan Zai noodles, with multiple branches. It is also a popular spot in Taipei, attracting both locals and tourists. During my trip to Taipei, I visited Dihua Street and passed by the "Du Xiao Yue" branch there. I noticed a crowd waiting outside, so I quickly took a number and waited for about 15 minutes before being seated. Inside the restaurant, there was still the signature noodle stall, where a staff member prepared Dan Zai noodles 🍜 and minced pork rice 🍚 at a low counter. The signature Dan Zai noodles featured a rich, century-old secret minced pork sauce paired with fresh shrimp and vegetable broth, topped with a shrimp for added flavor. We also tried the traditional minced pork rice, scallion-flavored tender chicken, Guanmiao chilled bamboo shoots, and dragon whisker vegetables. The scallion-flavored tender chicken stood out with its thin skin and crispy texture, while the bamboo shoots and dragon whisker vegetables tasted incredibly fresh.
