#Dr. Mackay Statue-Tamsui District, New Taipei City

#AprilGoodDestinations2025 This was a foreign missionary who made significant contributions to Taiwan's medical care and education. His name was George Leslie Mackay, whose Chinese name was Xie Ruili. Taiwanese people called him "Mackay", "Dr. Mackay" or "Reverend Mackay". Dr. Mackay was a Canadian of Scottish descent. He arrived in Taiwan by ship on September 3, 1872. He then practiced medicine and preached in Taiwan and married a local woman. In 2001, the town of Tamsui erected a stone statue for him and named one of the streets in Tamsui Mackay Street. June 2 of each year is designated as Mackay Day to commemorate Dr. Mackay's dedication and love for Taiwan. (20211112)
