The Tang Dynasty is a dynasty that Chinese people yearn for. Its embracing and inclusiveness, its courage and breadth of mind, all make people indulge in it. There is such a hall in Fo Guang Shan in Wutai County, Shanxi Province. It is the Tang Dynasty relic that we have been looking for, carrying the glory of the prosperous Tang Dynasty more than a thousand years ago. The East Hall of Foguang Temple has been preserved since the Tang Dynasty, but it was not rediscovered until 1937 and returned to the vision of the architectural community, overturning the conclusion of Japanese scholars that "there are no Tang Dynasty buildings in China." The buildings in the temple are stacked high and low, distributed on three high platforms, with a cliff behind them. It is speculated that the platforms were formed by artificial excavation and filling. The East Hall stands on the third-floor platform. To the north of the East Hall is the Wanshan Hall, to the south is the Guandi Hall, and in the southeast corner is the Patriarch Pagoda. -
