Itinerary
Day 1: Longbei Mountain Forest Park - Shushan Ancient South Street - Tao Er Factory
Morning: After arriving in Yixing, head straight to Longbei Mountain Forest Park, the largest urban park in East China with over 80% green coverage. Camp and stroll with the kids in the park, breathe fresh air, and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Noon: Taste Yixing’s local specialties at a nearby restaurant, recommended is salted pork stewed with bamboo shoots—a savory combination of salted pork belly and tender spring bamboo shoots with rich broth, incredibly satisfying.
Afternoon: Visit Shushan Ancient South Street, the birthplace of Yixing ceramics and the former residence of the purple clay master Gu Jingzhou. Walk the ancient street with the kids to learn about purple clay culture and find some interesting purple clay trinkets. Then, walk a few minutes to Tao Er Factory, whose unique architecture is perfect for photos. Take pictures with the kids and create wonderful memories.
Day 2: Zhanggong Cave - Yixing Bamboo Sea Scenic Area
Morning: Head to Zhanggong Cave, said to be the cultivation site of Zhang Guolao. Experience the karst cave landscape with the kids, marvel at nature’s craftsmanship, and enjoy thrilling rafting adventures.
Noon: Dine at a farmhouse restaurant near the scenic area and try the local black rice, made by soaking glutinous rice in black rice grass, fragrant and delicious with heat-relieving properties.
Afternoon: Visit Yixing Bamboo Sea Scenic Area and walk into the vast bamboo forest, instantly cooling down by 5-6°C. Take the cable car with the kids to the peak for a panoramic view of the expansive bamboo sea; reach Lingyun Pavilion to gaze into the distance and feel the wonder of living in such scenery; climb the highest peak in southern Jiangsu to overlook the entire bamboo forest. Don’t miss Mirror Lake, where the bamboo forest reflects on the water, creating a stunning water-and-sky scene.
Day 3: Dongpo Pavilion - Shanjuan Cave - Yaohu Town
Morning: Get up early to visit Dongpo Pavilion, built to commemorate Su Dongpo, located by Yangxian Lake. Climb the pavilion to enjoy the beautiful view of Yangxian Lake.
Morning: Head to Shanjuan Cave, rich in karst cave landscapes and a filming location for Journey to the West. Explore the magical underground world with the kids.
Noon: Have lunch at a restaurant near Shanjuan Cave and try Yixing’s “first dish,” also called Reunion Dish, which includes quail eggs, meatballs, pork skin, and more. It tastes delicious and symbolizes reunion.
Afternoon: Go to Yaohu Town, which offers many activities. Ride the cloud train to enjoy panoramic views of the town; play in the water park with wave pools and various slides that kids won’t want to leave; at night, watch the water fireworks show combined with light and water screens for a dreamy visual experience.
