Today, with plenty of time and no luggage, I basically strolled around the old streets. Al-balad means 'downtown' in Arabic, and every city has an al-balad, which in Jeddah is the old district. The true old district is guarded and only accessible on foot, while some parts are also old but accessible by car. 🚗 This time I took a few side streets, and it felt different from my last visit, very chic. There are many small coffee shops and boutiques, and sofas on the roadside to sit on. Some shops play local music, and it's really comfortable to buy a coffee and enjoy the sunny Jeddah weather this season. 🚗 Some places are under construction and can be noisy, some dangerous buildings are fenced off, and safety must be taken into account when visiting. The streets in some parts of the old city are very narrow, so be careful with your belongings when coming and going.

🚗The old city of Jeddah was listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO on November 28, 2006. After the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, it was the trade center of the Red Sea area. The various small shops, traditional white lime stone walls and protruding wooden window lattice buildings constitute the unique landscape of the old city of Jeddah. The Beit Naseef Museum in the city center is the most typical 19th-century Saudi residence, and its architectural style is greatly influenced by Egypt. 🚗I came to the old city of Jeddah for the first time around New Year's Day. At that time, I was walking on the main street with a suitcase. Today, I have plenty of time and no luggage, so I basically strolled around the old street. Al-balad means the city center in Arabic, and every city has an al-balad, which is the old city in Jeddah. The real old city is guarded and can only be entered on foot. Some parts are also old cities, but cars can drive. 🚗This time I turned a few small roads, which felt different from the last time I came, and felt very petty bourgeoisie. There are many small coffee shops and boutiques, and there are sofas on the side of the road to sit on. Flying internationally on Saudia airlines will inevitably make you experience a transit through the King Abdulaziz airport's new terminal 2 in Jeddah on the west coast of Saudi Arabia. One of the biggest airports in the world by landsize the whole experience is pretty smooth. The building itself is huge and new. The terminal 2 does have very little in the form.of shopping experience which in no way can be compared to that of Dubai or Doha. There are a few food outlets, smoking rooms and prayer areas. Definitely in need of improvement are the toilets that are dirty and are mostly closed off. The transit hotels does not advertise online, appears empty and no one seems to be eager to inform you of the prices for a few hours. Overall the Saudi airlines hub; the King Abdulaziz Terminal 2 at Jeddah is a smooth transfer point but in no way does it resemble the airport experience of Dubai, Doha or Muscat.#jeddah #saudia #saudiarabia #transit #middleeast #airporthotel

Jeddah is a beautiful city in Saudi. Summer time is hot, so if you are a "walking" tourist might be difficult. Old Town is nice, however they are renovating it, so it's more of old style new buildings. The promenade is nice to walk on, if you lucky can catch F1 race. It's a nice city to pass by if you are in Saudi for any reason.
