castle with an incredible view and history
#gohiking
Simena castle is one of the must visit places if you are doing the boat tour from Kekova! this castle is located on the top of the hill so hiking os necessary! it’s quite challenging to reach the top since the only way to get to the top is by foot! However the view on the top is just stunning, you are able to see all the small islands, and this place is full of history! so this castle is highly recommended

Kekova Island, Antalya, Türkiye
Kekova Island is an uninhabited island located in Antalya, Turkey, near the coast of Demre. It was once the entire remains of the ancient Greek Dorcister and a famous Lycian settlement.
A major earthquake in the 2nd century BC destroyed the settlement, and much of it slid into the water, becoming known as the "Sunken City of Kekova".
The Simiel Castle, built in medieval Byzantine style, is the best place to view Kalekoy. The castle was used to fight against pirates who nested on Kekova Island at that time. Protected by the Turkish government, the sunken city and the entire Kekova area prohibit swimming and diving on the coastline. Taking a boat is the only way to see the surface and underwater city ruins.
Sadly, over time, outside looters stole or destroyed much of the remains from the area, so today only a few of the ruins remain. #Overseas travel #Mediterranean #Turkey #Turkey travel notes #Turkey travel #Turkey tourism #Turkey super memorable trip #Cruise #Cruise river #Island holiday #Island tour #Island style #Relics
