If you visit before evening, you can enter the church! (Please note that the opening hours change depending on the day of the week)
During World War II, a bomb fell on this church and did not explode, saving many lives. This is why it is called the "Miracle of Mosta".
When I went to the church, I was able to see a replica of the bomb.
I was impressed by the beauty of the inside of the church and could feel the history, so it's a place I definitely want you to visit if you come to Malta.

Malta’s Miracle Church
During World War II, the town of Mosta was prone to aerial bombardment. At about 16:40 on 9 April 1942, the Luftwaffe dropped three bombs on the church, one 50 kg (110 lb) high-explosive bomb pierced the dome and entered the church, where a congregation of more than 300 people was awaiting early evening Mass.
The bomb did not explode. This event was interpreted as a miracle by the inhabitants.
🕯️ A space filled with tranquility, in the cathedral of Malta 🍃
🏛 Light that lingers in the stone walls
When walking through the old city of Malta, you come across a cathedral at the end of a small alley. More than the ornate entrance, the silence of the moment you open the door and enter is the first thing that touches your heart. The light seeping through the thick stone walls seems to silently comfort you 🌫️🪨🌿

🕯️ Peace of a time when there are no people
In the early morning or late afternoon when all the tourists have left, the cathedral is filled with silence instead of the prayers of the believers. If you sit quietly on a wooden bench, you will feel your heart lighten just by existing. It is the power of a quiet space that is more powerful than words 📿🪑🌙

🎨 A wall where art and faith meet
Old frescoes and golden decorations remain throughout the cathedral. Even if you don't believe in religion, those long-standing touches and time approach everyone with reverence. One picture, one curve of the ceiling makes my heart linger for a long time 🎨🔔🕊️

💭 A moment too precious to just pass by
Malta's cathedral is like the heart of the city. Even if it's not fancy, you can feel a lot just by staying quietly. In the middle of the trip, it's the place where my heart becomes the quietest. The cathedral in Malta was such a place.

Commonwealth Constructions: Mosta Bridge
The original Mosta bridge was completed by the British army in the late 1800s to allow better access to Fort Mosta across Wied il-Għasel. The original bridge was built of iron and overtime suffered structural damage so was replaced by a stone bridge in the early 1980s. The bridge holds the title of the highest crossing in Malta.

A Building Which Inspires: Mosta Rotunda!
If you’re visiting Malta in 2025 make sure you take time to visit Mosta Rotunda, officially known as the Sanctuary Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady. It’s one of the most striking churches in Malta, dating from the 17th century. Apparently it has the third largest dome in the world by width, after St Peter‘s Basilica in the Vatican and St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The outside also features an impressive colonnaded portico. Entry is only €5 in as well worth it to see the stunning interior.
