Opposite this building is Bhutan's Natural history museum. It's a small place with lots of information well presented.

The hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (locals called it Paro Taktsang) is one of Bhutan’s most iconic experiences — and let me tell you, it lives up to the hype… and the challenge. I started the climb early at 7am, and the whole round trip (ascent + descent) took me over 6 hours. Strangely enough, I found the ascent easier — slow, steady, and with plenty of short breaks. But the descent was tougher on the knees, especially with the constant thumping on rocky trails. I even saw a few experienced hikers switch to open-toe sandals on the way down to reduce abrasion on their toes — pretty smart! A few things to note: • There are no toilets along the trail, so definitely clear your bowels before starting. • The monastery sits at high altitude, so it’s important to get acclimatized beforehand — I did a couple of easy hikes first to prep. • Don’t rush. Take your time, hydrate, and let the beauty of the mountains carry you forward. The view of the monastery clinging to the cliff face is beyond breathtaking — and the sense of accomplishment when you reach it? The walls are also decorated with portraits of Bhutan’s beloved royal family, adding a warm, personal touch that reflects the country’s deep respect for its monarchy. Padmasambhava is so revered in Bhutan that Bhutanese people call him the Second Buddha, so his birthday is celebrated for 3 to 4 days in a row, with men, women, and children from all over the city dressing up to participate. - The first 3 days of the Paro Tshechu are filled with non-stop mask dances and performances from morning to night, and on the morning of the last day, a giant thangka of Padmasambhava is hung up, because everyone hopes to pray for blessings on this day, so the whole hillside is full of people. - I arrived at the scene at around 6am and was lucky enough to get a commanding spot, and then I saw the King of Bhutan coming to pray and offer incense (first photo). After the King left, I also left the high ground to take pictures elsewhere. I didn't expect to meet the King leading the team back to the Dzong after a while. When he saw foreign Travelers, he greeted them and said, "Nice to meet you." Because I had a return flight in the morning, I had to rush to the airport after joining in the fun, so it was a pleasant surprise to end my trip. - Tshechu is held in different regions in different Bhutanese months. The more important ones are the Paro Tshechu in mid-April, the Thimphu Tshechu in early October, and the Punakha Tshechu in early March. The distance from Paro Airport to Paro city center is only 5 km. After taking a taxi and settling in, I couldn't wait to start my walking tour of the city. My first stop was Paro Dzong. Paro Dzong's architecture is unique and quite similar to the Tibetan style. It looks solemn and simple, and every detail exudes a unique charm, making it hard to resist stopping to admire it. Independent travel in Bhutan is a fantastic experience. It's not difficult, the prices are reasonable, and everything feels very pleasant and comfortable. Strolling around at your own pace and experiencing the exotic atmosphere is a rare treat.
