I heard that Penang is similar to Phuket. How could we miss it? But if we want to travel easily by plane, what fun would it be? We have to take the train.. which is not difficult at all. More importantly, it is not expensive. We started by taking the last bus from Phuket to Hat Yai. We will arrive in Hat Yai around 4.00 am. -> When we arrive at Hat Yai Transport, find a car to the train station to buy a train ticket from Hat Yai to Padang Besar. It costs 50 baht. Hello, I’m IM from Thailand. My Malaysian boyfriend took me on a trip to Penang for the first time, and we didn’t plan much — we just went there for one thing: to eat! Penang is a paradise for food lovers, and I think Thai people will especially love the variety because many dishes taste quite similar to Thai food. The town itself is charming, with streets full of character. It’s a friendly and welcoming place, and we enjoyed exploring the local areas. One of the highlights was the night market. It was so easy to walk around, and there were so many interesting food stalls to try. From local snacks to mouthwatering dishes, it was a foodie’s dream come true. It is one of the most prominent old buildings in Georgetown, Malaysia. It has been open since 1908 and is still in full use. Come and take cool check-in photos. The night view is also very beautiful. George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) Georgetown World Heritage City is where many people come to take check-in photos with this white building. Day2 📍: Penang Hill, an important landmark tourist attraction in Penang You have to take the Penang Hill Funicular Railway up to the top of the hill via a steep 2km path, which takes only about 5-10 minutes. How to get there: Take bus no. 201 from the city. Price: RM2.5 Entrance fee: RM30 Gurney Bay Park is a seaside park in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. There is a playground, a skating rink, a walking path, a viewing point, and public toilets. Chew Jetty, also known as the fishing community, is a village that has been awarded the Unesco World Heritage Site award. The houses in this community still maintain their original style. They are old wooden houses, mixed with Chinese art, jutting out into the sea. Here, there are restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, and street art. At the end of the fishing village, there is also a shrine and a wide lawn where you can sit and enjoy the view. In the evening, there are a lot of people. We also watched the sunset at the shrine. It was very beautiful. Day 3 📍: Penang National Park Penang National Park has dense trees and many wildlife. Beautiful sea views. There are also hiking trails to various islands or boat services. You can buy a tour from the front. 💰 Entrance fee: 50 RM, use a student card to get off. 💰 Price: 20 RM Travel: Take bus no. 101 at Restoran Kapitan stop, get off at Taman Negara. 💰 Price: 4 RM Return: Walk to wait for a bus at Hub Teluk Bahang stop back into the city. 💰 Price: 3.5 RM Komtar is the tallest building on Penang Island. It is the center of shopping. Love Corner Tea - Chulia Street, a cute cafe decorated in pink tones. I had a transit trip in Penang because my flight to Ho Chi Minh City had a layover there. I booked a hotel near the beach and had the best lor mee ever! It's very famous and even has a Michelin star! It was truly an explosion of flavor for just $2. If that isn't enough to satisfy you, there's a night market with desserts and local food. Don't forget to buy Eureka Popcorn, which is only available in Malaysia. I bought a super big bag for family and friends.

It was a trip to Penang, Malaysia 🇲🇾We kicked off our trip in Penang by exploring the vibrant streets of George Town 😍 The heritage area is filled with colorful street art, and we found it to be a photographer’s paradise 🙌 The street art here tells stories of the city’s past and offers some of the most Instagram-worthy shots. Be sure to visit the famous murals like “Children on a Bicycle” 🚲 by Ernest Zacharevic. Afterward, we wandered down to the Clan Jetties, a unique spot where wooden houses are built over the water. The sunset views over the jetties are simply stunning 💯 📍George Town, Penang We visited the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, a well-preserved heritage building that gives you a glimpse into the opulent life of the Peranakan Chinese community 👌 The intricate decorations and antique furniture make for amazing photographs 📸 We’d recommend visiting in the late morning when the light is bright, giving the interior rich detail in photos 🙌 📍29 Church Street, George Town, Penang 10200 We then took a trip to Kek Lok Si, the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. The temple’s architecture, colorful statues, and panoramic views of Penang make for incredible photo opportunities 📸 The Seven-Tier Pagoda and the massive statue of the Goddess of Mercy are must-captures 🙌 We recommend going early in the morning or late in the afternoon for soft lighting and fewer visitor ✨ 📍1000, Lintang Tokong, Ayer Itam, Penang 11500 We also made our way up to Penang Hill. The views from the top are breathtaking, with a panoramic view of the island 🏝️ and the city below. The funicular train 🚆 ride to the top was a highlight, offering plenty of opportunities for photos 📸 of the lush greenery. We suggest visiting in the late afternoon to catch the sunset and enjoy the cooler evening breeze 😍 📍Penang Hill Railway, 11500 Bukit Bendera, Penang We then visited Batu Ferringhi Beach 🏝️ The beach is peaceful and the perfect spot for a laid-back day. The long stretch of sand and clear waters make for great photos 📸 and the golden hour around sunset 🌇 here is spectacular. Penang Kek Lok Si Temple, also known as Kuil Kek Lok Si, is reputed to be the largest Chinese Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin, and features a towering 30-meter statue of Guanyin at its peak. The temple is built on the slopes of Crane Hill, with such a significant elevation difference that a cable car is needed to travel between different parts of the temple. How cool is that! If you are interested in temple culture, this is definitely a must-visit attraction when traveling to Penang. The full name of Kek Lok Si Temple is 'Crane Hill Kek Lok Zen Temple', and it is said to have been bestowed the title 'Buddha's Land between Sea and Sky' by the Empress Dowager Cixi. Kek Lok Si Temple features the 'Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas', a seven-story pagoda with the bottom two levels designed in a Chinese octagonal style, the middle three levels in a Thai white pagoda style, and the top two levels in a Burmese golden stupa style. It is a rare architectural design that combines elements from Chinese, Thai, and Burmese pagodas. Located in the suburbs of George Town, Kek Lok Si Temple is often visited together with Penang Hill. The most convenient way to get there is by Grab, but it can be difficult to get a ride from the top of the temple, so it's best to walk down to the base of the hill.

My 4-day trip to Penang was a delightful mix of heritage, food, and scenic views. From exploring the charming streets of George Town, filled with vibrant murals and colonial-era buildings, to indulging in Penang’s famous street food — every meal was a treat! Char kway teow, asam laksa, and cendol were definite highlights. Beyond the city, I enjoyed the serene coastal views and a relaxing stroll along Penang’s beaches. The blend of culture, history, and nature made the trip memorable. Whether it was visiting temples, night markets, or hidden cafés, there was always something exciting to discover. Penang’s rich heritage and amazing food scene definitely make it a place worth returning to!
