[Nagoya Guide] Walk, eat, and relax. A one-day trip to Nagoya that you'll fall in love with
Nagoya isn't as flashy as Tokyo or Osaka.
But once you get into it, it's easy to get hooked.
I've put together a real travel plan that will let you enjoy the charms of Nagoya in one day.
This is a recommended course for first-time tourists and those who are visiting Nagoya for the second time◎
⸻
▶︎ 10:00 | [Atsuta Shrine] Nagoya's "Forest of the Gods" enveloped in tranquility
If you come to Nagoya, this is the first place to go.
Atsuta Shrine, with over 1900 years of history, is a different world, one step away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The moment you pass through the torii gate, you'll feel the air change.
🌿Points:
・A sense of tranquility and holiness that makes it hard to believe you're in the city
・The goshuin stamps are simple and beautiful
・Taking a deep breath at "Atsuta no Mori" will put your mind at peace
⸻
▶︎ 11:30|[Atsuta Horaiken Main Branch] The classic hitsumabushi is truly exceptional
Within walking distance of Atsuta Shrine.
If you want to taste the king of Nagoya gourmet food, hitsumabushi, this is the place to be.
🍽️Points:
・The first bowl is just as is, the second bowl is with condiments, and the third bowl is ochazuke with dashi. It's the best to finish it off in your favorite way.
・Crispy on the outside, fluffy inside. The eel is grilled to perfection...!
👉 It's recommended to make a reservation in advance or line up early (it gets crowded even on weekdays)
⸻
▶︎ 13:30|【Cafe Bonbon】A pure coffee shop so retro it will make you cry, where the Showa era is still alive
Moving a little from Horaiken, we headed to Bonbon, a long-established coffee shop in Chikusa.
It's like a time slip to the 1950s.
☕Points:
・The pudding a la mode, the butter cream cake, everything is nostalgic and adorable
・The sight of the local regulars reading the newspaper is adorable
・You can also buy baked goods as souvenirs◎
📸It's also great for photos. Pay attention to the wall tiles, showcases, and lighting!
⸻
▶︎ 15:00|【Wellbe Sakae】A mecca for sauna lovers
Nagoya is also known as a "sauna town."
The most famous of them all is Wellbe Sakae. This place is no longer a sauna, but a "different world."
🔥Points:
・The variety is amazing, including Finnish saunas and forest saunas
・The relaxing chairs are on top of trees. It's like another world.
・There are women-only days, so female sauna-goers can feel at ease!
※Relax in the triangle of sauna → cold bath → open-air bath...
⸻
▶︎ 17:30|【Compal】 Nagoya's proud mecca for coffee shop gourmet
After relaxing in the sauna, you'll want to finish off with some Nagoya soul food.
Compal, famous for its "fried shrimp sandwich," is a coffee shop chain that has been loved by locals for many years.
🥪Points:
・The specialty fried shrimp sandwich is divine in volume and deliciousness
・It's also interesting that the iced coffee is served hot → pour it yourself into a glass with ice
・It's also available in station buildings and department stores, making it perfect for the end of your trip!
⸻
📍Summary: The charm of Nagoya that you can experience with this travel plan
✔️ History and tranquility → Atsuta Shrine
✔️ Authentic Nagoya food → Atsuta Horaiken & Compal
✔️ Showa retro cafe culture → Bonbon
✔️ Cutting-edge sauna → Wellbe Sakae
Nagoya has a "deep but friendly" feel, and the satisfaction of the trip is high.
This plan in particular is "not too touristy, but still enjoyable", and you should be able to feel that exquisiteness☺️
