🗺My perfect 2-day itinerary in La Paz, Mexico 🇲🇽
If you are travelling to Cabo San Lucas or Los Cabos, please, spend couple days in La Paz. Promise, you won't regret it! It's a nice authentic Mexican town, calm and beautiful.
Here's what we did in 2 days.
🐚 Day 1 – Ocean Adventure & Sunset Stroll
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
🚤 Full-day boat excursion
Let’s be honest — Isla Espíritu Santo is the reason most people come to La Paz. And once you see it, you’ll get it.
✔ Isla Espíritu Santo – remote, pristine, and ridiculously beautiful
✔ Snorkeling with wild sea lions – playful, fast, and surprisingly friendly 🦭
✔ Balandra Beach – famous for its shallow turquoise waters and 🍄 Mushroom Rock
💡 Pro tip: Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a dry bag, and water shoes if you plan to climb closer to the rock.
5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
🌅 Evening on the Malecón
Back on land, slow the pace with a walk along La Paz’s peaceful Malecón.
✔ Endless sea views
✔ Sunset vibes in every direction
✔ Grab tacos, fresh juice, or a cold cerveza along the way 🌮🍻
🌵 Day 2 – Views, Culture & Beach Bliss
8:00 AM – 9:30 AM
⛰️ Hike to Mirador Balandra
This short hike offers next-level views of the coastline — the kind that make you stop and just breathe.
✔ Trail lined with giant cacti 🌵
✔ Red cliffs + white beaches + blue sea = unreal combo
✔ Windy at the top, but 100% worth it
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
🏛️ Explore the city center
A quick culture fix before hitting the beach.
✔ Stroll La Paz’s historic core
✔ Visit Nuestra Señora de La Paz Cathedral ⛪ – peaceful & photogenic
✔ Grab coffee or pastries at a local café ☕
12:30 PM – 3:30 PM
🏖️ Chill at Playa El Tesoro
Its name means “the treasure” — and yes, it lives up to it.
✔ Calm, clear, shallow water
✔ Perfect for floating & relaxing
✔ Nearby seafood restaurants for a casual lunch
5:30 PM – 7:00 PM
🌄 Sunset at Cerro de la Calavera
End your La Paz adventure on a high note — literally.
✔ Easy hike to a wide-open viewpoint
✔ 360° views over the desert and sea
✔ Peaceful, golden, and crowd-free

Rode in like a VIP, walked through the sea, met a mushroom. Balandra, you’re wild 🍄🚤💦
Playa Balandra isn't just another beach — it’s a whole journey. We took a speedboat across the bay as part of an excursion, and honestly? That alone was worth it 💨🌊
You completely skip the long car line (since entry is limited) and glide straight into paradise.
✨ On the way, we spotted whales breaching in the distance 🐋 (last picture), and even passed a sunken yacht lying dramatically on the water’s surface — kind of eerie, kind of cool (picture 6)🛥️👀
Once we arrived, it felt like stepping into a dream: shallow turquoise water you can walk through for what feels like forever. Cold at first? Yes ❄️. But totally refreshing under that Baja sun 😎☀️
Of course, we made our way to the famous Hongo de Balandra — the mushroom-shaped rock you have to see in person 🍄📸
⚠️ Bring water shoes if you want to get close — the rocks are sharp and slippery!
➡️Just know: excursions give you limited time on the beach (about 30-40 minutes). Since you can't swim there due to shallow water, that's enough of time. Still, every second there is worth it.

Some views are so surreal… you almost want to keep them secret 🌊✨
Mirador Balandra took my breath away — literally and figuratively. After a short 20 min hike (which you can manage in slippers) through desert trails dotted with cacti of all shapes and sizes (seriously, check photo #4 — that cactus was massive 🌵📸), we reached the top… and just stood there in silence.
The view was unbelievable: glowing turquoise water, soft white sand, and layers of desert mountains beyond. It felt more like a painting than real life 🎨🌴
Part of me didn’t even want to post this — it felt like one of those secret places you want to keep just for yourself. But okay, here you go 🤭
✅ Just 30 mins drive from La Paz. There’s free parking and no entry fee. It gets windy at the top, so hold onto your hat — but wow, it’s worth it. It's one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.
📍If you're anywhere near La Paz or Cabo… don’t skip it. Seriously.
