[2025 George Town Hotels] Travel Guide for Cititel Express Penang (Updated Jul)

On the first day of Penang, I stayed at the local business hotel brand Hittite Express Hotel. The rooms are small, but they are all well-equipped. Even the refrigerator I need most in the south, the bed is a one-meter-high bed, soft and comfortable. The height of the 18th floor is also enough to overlook this small town, directly overlooking the sea in the distance. The hotel is downstairs shopping mall, the corner is 7-11, shopping is very convenient! The Old Town is also within walking distance, not only for business, but also for tourists!

Penang really has its own rhythm. It is not a city with shiny skyscrapers, but a place with more and more stories and surprises around corners. During this free trip, I felt like I fell into an architectural maze, from old to new, from Chinese to Western, my eyes could not stop👀 ⸻ 🏘 Georgetown Old Street: Every step is like turning a page In Penang, architecture itself is a language. Walking into the streets of Georgetown, you will see: • ⭐️ British colonial style white wall arcade buildings The mottled walls, colorful window frames and carved wooden doors are super tasteful • ⭐️ Chinese arcade + five-foot-base The black and white tiles extend all the way, and the light and shadow pass through the arcade, which is so beautiful that it looks like shooting a MV • ⭐️ The street corner where mosques and churches are side by side Multiculturalism is not inconsistent here, but harmonious to the point of surprise Even the rows of old houses have their own souls. Many have been converted into cultural and creative shops, cafes or homestays, which are retro and vibrant. ⸻ 🛺 Pulling a cart through the streets is like traveling through time and space This time I took a trishaw and asked a local man to take me around the old neighborhood~ While walking, I listened to him telling stories about Penang in the past, and watched the century-old wooden windows on the windowsill and the red lanterns under the eaves swaying. It really felt like a slow time travel✨

This city never disappoints when it comes to food and chill vibes. 🛏️ Where I Stayed Stayed at Cititel Express Hotel — simple, clean, comfy, and super convenient. It’s right in the middle of George Town, so you can walk to local food stalls, malls, and even some cool street art spots. No car needed, just vibes. Nearby KOMTAR, 1st Avenue Mall, Hin Bus Depot Art Centre 🌉 Chill Walks & Sunset Views Took a relaxing walk to Xing Zhou Bridge — you can see the famous Penang Bridge from there! It’s a nice spot to clear your head after a long day or just enjoy the breeze. 🍜 Let’s Talk Food (the real reason I travel 😋) Penang’s food scene is 🔥. Here’s what I managed to squeeze in: • Char Kuey Teow – Wok hei goodness, must-try • Hokkien Mee – Spicy soup, perfect for noodle lovers • Ou Jian (Oyster Omelette) – Crispy, eggy, and full of flavor • Yam Rice with Pork Soup – Comfort food level 100 • Ais Kacang & Cendol – Icy, sweet, and super refreshing in the heat ☕ Café Stop: Narrow Marrow Found a cute little café called Narrow Marrow — their tiramisu is sooo good and not too sweet (which is rare!). Small place but big character.l Overall, it was a short but sweet trip. Penang is the kind of place where even a quick walk around the block turns into a mini food adventure. The room was small, but smartly designed — modern, clean, and functional, with just enough comfort for a short stay. The bed was comfy, and the decor was fresh and minimalist. The biggest draw? Location. You’re just minutes away on foot from iconic Penang street food spots and well-loved eateries. If your trip revolves around tasting local flavours, this hotel makes a perfect base. However, one issue we noticed was the soundproofing. The walls and doors weren’t the thickest — we could hear the neighboring room’s door slamming and conversations at times. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of if you’re a light sleeper. Convenient and easy to travel, you can easily call a Grab or walk to catch a bus. Close to shopping malls and street food areas. The rooms are clean, the staff provides excellent service, and there is a water dispenser available. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and breakfast is served buffet-style.

📍 Itinerary Overview: SkyBridge + Observation/Window Deck (65 floor) & Rainbow Walk (67 floor). 🚇 Transportation - Take Free Georgetown bus (CAT) to Komtar Station. RECOMMEND: Find and Enter via The Top Main Entrance; and avoid getting confused & lost via Komtar/ICT in-mall routes that goes through side entrances. 📷 Photo Spots - 1-4: The TOPs main/ground lobby, with a bunch of displays and entrances to other activities. 5-6: Main Entrance to Desks, will need to pass security. 7-9: Skybridge walk, will need to sign waiver and get equipment attached/checked. 10-15: Observation Deck/Window ground view, can stay until 900pm, good to wait for both day ns night 16-20: The Rainbow Walk/Cafe deck, nice to have some food/refreshments and enjoy scenic views of Georgetown. 💡 Tips: IMPORTANT: Once you go up to the SkyBridge/Observation deck, you cannot go come back down and re-enter. This is really unfortunate since: 1. Other activities in the TOP area (Aqauirim, Dino Park) that are usually "bundled packages" will need to be visited before or after. 2. SkyBridge's last entry is no later than 600pm, but you will likely need to "hang around" either on the Observation Deck/Rainbow cafe/deck at least until 800pm if you want evening views/light scenery. There are food/drinks/sitting areas/merchandise and free toilet usage though. SO BE SURE TO LOOK AT THE TIME SCHEDULE, PLAN AHEAD, AND GET THERE EARLY (ESPECIALLY DURING PEAK SEASON) #travel #thingstodo
