Germany Travel🇩🇪 Cologne, one of the oldest cities in Germany
Cologne, one of the oldest cities in Germany!
It's not a place that many tourists visit like Frankfurt, Berlin, or Munich, but it's actually a new city that I've never heard of!
My younger brother, who majored in musical instruments, went to Germany to study abroad for two years.
I found out about it because of my younger brother, and thanks to him, we went on a family trip.
📌 Cologne (Köln)
It's a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was founded by the Roman Empire in 38 BC and is one of the oldest cities in Germany.
(My younger sibling told me an interesting story about Cologne. There is a perfume called eau de colone, which literally means water of Cologne. At that time, Cologne was the current Cologne!
I heard that there is still a store in Cologne that makes and sells the famous perfume that Napoleon used, so I went there and bought some.)
•Cathedral in front of Cologne Station
- Address: Domkloster 4, 50667 Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia Germany
- It is open from 10:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, and the interior is free to visit!
As soon as you leave Cologne Station, you can see a magnificent cathedral. It is said that it was not destroyed during World War II to set the direction, and the black walls are the traces of that.
When you go inside, you can see an old wooden cross, and a coffin, or should I say a tomb!
You can also see the slight renovation work being done inside and out.
• Rhine Riverside & Hohenzollern Lock Bridge
- Address: Kennedy-Ufer 2a, 50679 Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia Germany
After visiting the cathedral, cross the station and walk across to the other side to see the Rhine Riverside. You can take a cruise ship by time zone and course.
(Each cruise company has a ticket booth for each area)
If you walk along the riverside, you will come across the Hohenzollern Bridge, where there are locks hanging next to the train passing by. There was a scene filmed in Germany in the drama ‘Queen of Tears’ that I enjoyed watching.. I got it mixed up with this place.. It is said to be the Einzelner Bridge in Frankfurt.
If you want to take a walk while looking at the wide open river, I recommend this place!
• Imhoff Chocolate Museum
- Address: Am Schokoladenmuseum 1A, 50678 Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia Germany
- Open daily from 10:00 to 18:00
- Price: 14.5 € (weekdays), 16 € (weekends)
A museum run by Lindt, a famous German chocolate manufacturer.
There are various exhibitions and experiences related to chocolate
(The chocolate given before entering and after leaving was so delicious...)
Starting with the origin and exhibition of chocolate, I was able to see the chocolate manufacturing process.
After looking around, if you go back down to the first floor, there is a shop and cafe where you can buy various types of chocolate.
I would recommend the local Cologne beer rather than the food you must eat in Cologne!
A restaurant and beer house that I went to on the recommendation of my younger sibling who lives there?
It was packed with locals. “Gaffel am Dom GmbH” located right in front of Cologne Central Station
Gaffel Kölsch brewery pub that can be called the synonym of Cologne beer!
If you order beer, they give you a cute coaster.
My younger sibling said that they refill your beer after you order the local beer, Kölsch beer.
When you say, “I’m full and can’t drink anymore,” “I think I’ve had a lot of beer,” “I can’t drink anymore~~~,” you use this cute coaster here.
If you put the coaster on an empty glass, they won’t refill it anymore.
There is also a lemon-flavored beer in Gaffel beer, and for a drinker like me, that was the real deal..
I tried all the must-eat foods like sausages, pretzels, schnitzels, and schweinshaxe, but the only thing I remember is the beer🍺
Because of time constraints and because I was traveling with my parents, I regret not being able to visit the Haribo factory and returning to Korea..
If you like jelly and cute things, I highly recommend the Haribo factory.. It was the number one place I wanted to go.. I was satisfied with the jelly and Haribo bear doll that my younger sibling sent me by courier❤️
For those who want to travel quietly and in a small way rather than crowded places,
I highly recommend Cologne!
