Dadou Road Historical and Cultural District is located on the east bank of the section from the Grand Canal Daguang Bridge to Jiangzhang Bridge. It retains the Xiangji Temple Stone Pagoda, the National Silk Reserve Warehouse, and a large number of residential buildings from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. It is one of the districts in Hangzhou where the historical features of the old city are still preserved. During the New Year, this historical district is full of the lively and auspicious atmosphere of the Spring Festival. The market is full of dazzling goods and food, and many surrounding restaurants are open for business. This street is suitable for gatherings with friends and family, and is very eye-catching during the Spring Festival.

The Hangzhou Grand Canal Historical and Cultural District includes Dadou Road Historical and Cultural District, Xiaohe Straight Street, and Qiaoxi Historical and Cultural District. Each of these three districts has its own characteristics. Xiaohe Straight Street is the most well-known, with a focus on cultural and creative industries, coffee, tea houses, and other businesses, and has the largest commercial scale. Next is Qiaoxi Historical and Cultural District, which is famous for Gongchen Bridge, a number of museums, and traditional Chinese medicine halls. Finally, there is Dadou Road Historical and Cultural District, which is centered around Xiangji Temple and the National Silk Warehouse, and features Zen culture, tea, dining, and supporting facilities. I don't recommend Xiaohe Straight Street right now, as it's full of flower shops and street photography, and the shops are seriously homogenized. This is my first time visiting Dadou Road Historical and Cultural District, and I highly recommend it! It's close to Xiangji Temple Station on Metro Line 3, and it's only a 5-minute walk from the metro station to Xiangji Temple. Cross the square in front of Xiangji Temple and you'll reach Dadou Road District. The whole district is relatively narrow and long, with the main line along the canal, so on one side is the thousand-year-old canal, where you can occasionally hear the sound of cargo ships' engines, and on the other side are various tea houses, restaurants, and tea and pastry shops. During the Spring Festival, the festive atmosphere is overwhelming! There are also many options for shopping and dining. Based on my experience, I recommend a few shops: 1. Seventh Polyphony: A perfume and fragrance shop. The scents are high-end and the prices are moderate. 2. Light and Firefly: A handmade goods shop selling bags, felted wool pendants, and more. The shop has a super cute Yorkshire Terrier. 3. Wanshiwu: A great choice for dining and coffee.

It was an important gateway for people traveling between Gongbu and the city during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. A large number of buildings from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China are still preserved here, and it is one of the blocks in Hangzhou that showcases the historical features of the old city. Entering from the archway at the intersection of Dadou Road, the block is not long, running from north to south, and the road surface is paved with stone slabs, each slab telling a story. On one side of the road is the Grand Canal, with some benches and water-friendly platforms along the bank. On the shore is the ancient block with white walls, black tiles, wooden doors and windows, full of ancient charm. It is one of the representative places of Hangzhou's exquisite slow life. Hangzhou is also popular for Osmanthus which can be spotted pretty much everywhere in the city 🧡 I had mine at Emoment Café where you can sit and enjoy your cup of coffee indoors or outdoors. It’s located along a historical and cultural road a few blocks away from Xiangji Temple. They have the typical coffee choices and a bunch of flavoured ones. My Osmanthus latte with oat milk was 36¥ after the shop prompted me to use a coupon on WeChat. The ambiance was nice and calm.
