Hualien Three-Day Two-Night Trip: Climbing Dashibi Mountain and Eating Flying Fish Roe Sausages!
We embarked on a three-day, two-night trip to Hualien and visited Dashibi Mountain on the eastern coast. Located at the southern end of the Qizai Coastal Recreation Area, this small hill juts out from the coastline. Our guide mentioned that it looks like a big nose and somewhat like a turtle shell, hence the names 'Dashibi Mountain' or 'Turtle Hermitage Mountain.'
Dashibi Mountain has a hiking trail that loops around to the seaside. Most of the steps are made of wooden sleepers and stones, with gentle slopes that make for a comfortable walk. It takes less than an hour to complete the trail. At the summit, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Highway 11, Qizai Bay, and the Pacific Ocean. The view is excellent, but there's no shade, so it can get quite hot!
Across from the parking lot, there's a stall selling indigenous sausages. Our guide recommended the grilled flying fish roe sausages, so we bought some to try. They have a unique sea flavor and are quite delicious.

📝 Personal Experience
This trail is short, about 750–910 meters round trip, featuring wooden sleepers and stone steps. It includes pavilions and mileage markers, and the entire hike takes about 50 minutes to 1 hour, making it very accessible. I visited on a sunny afternoon, and the gradient blue ocean breeze was breathtaking. Photos taken near the pavilion looked almost like postcards. The best photo spot is the wooden boardwalk near the second pavilion, where the sunset creates a poetic scene that will make you want to snap multiple shots.

✨ A ridgeline trail that allows people to relax
Driving along the east coast, when the scenery gradually changes from villages to coasts and from green land to ridgelines, you will find yourself at the [Da Shibishan Trail].
It is not as magnificent as Taroko, nor as ostentatious as Qingshui Cliff, but a kind of quiet beauty and slow healing.
Standing on the high point of the ridgeline, there is a green hillside under your feet, an endless blue sea in front of you, and only the sound of wind and waves interweaving in your ears - here is the most gentle mountain and sea secret place in Hualien.
💡 Highlights of Da Shibishan Trail
🌿 The mountain and sea ridgeline, green on one side and blue on the other
The most charming thing about this trail is that the entire section is on the ridgeline. On the left is the undulating green valley, and on the right is the coastline. The sea breeze blows and the waves patter. Walking on it is like floating between heaven and earth.
🌤 The view is super wide, and it looks like a postcard no matter how you take it.
As long as the weather is good, you can see the Jiqi Bay, Shitiping, the distant Changbin Coast and even the Pacific Ocean from the ridge.
The clouds are sometimes low and sometimes high, and the changes in the sky make the whole journey full of surprises.
👣 Easy and easy to walk, even beginners can complete it easily.
The trail is composed of wooden planks and mud land. Although there are ups and downs, the difficulty is low and no mountaineering experience is required to complete it. Whether it is a family trip, a couple's walk, or a solo trip, it is very suitable.
