Wartburg Castle – Where History Comes Alive in Germany
#postandearn
#localguides
During my trip to Thuringia, Germany, I had the chance to explore one of the most legendary castles in Europe — Wartburg Castle in Eisenach. Perched high above the forest, it’s more than just a fortress — it’s a living monument of German history, culture, and faith.
Walking through its stone halls, I stood where Martin Luther once translated the New Testament into German, changing the course of religious history forever. The beautifully restored Lutherstube, grand banquet halls, and painted ceilings gave me chills — every corner whispered stories of saints, scholars, and singers.
✨ Why Wartburg Castle should be on your travel list:
✔️ UNESCO World Heritage Site with 1,000 years of history
✔️ Stunning views of the Thuringian Forest from the castle walls
✔️ Home of Saint Elizabeth and the legendary Minstrel Contest
✔️ Explore Gothic chapels, medieval towers, and Luther’s historic study
✔️ Perfect mix of culture, nature, and architecture
📍 Wartburg Castle, Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany
🕰️ Best time to visit: Spring or autumn (less crowded, great views!)

• Visit Luther’s Room (Lutherstube), where he worked in hiding—accessible via guided tour
• Climb the battlements for sweeping panoramas of Eisenach and the forests below
• Don’t miss the Festival Hall, renowned for its acoustics, now used for operas and events

Dragon Gorge in Eisenach
If you're visiting Eisenach, I highly recommend heading to this spot near Wartburg Castle early in the morning. You can enjoy the thrill, the scenery, and the fresh air. I personally bought a sandwich and coffee from a shop in the morning and had a refreshing breakfast here. It can be a bit scary when it's still dark, but just after dawn when it starts to brighten up is the perfect time to visit. You'll understand why it's called Dragon Gorge. However, keep in mind that you'll need to walk along the road a bit from the bus stop to reach Dragon Gorge, so be cautious of cars!

【Wartburg Castle, Germany】 With a long history, visit Germany again in 2024
#2024travelwish #checkin #attractionsphotographyguide #weekendtour #overseastour #attractions #tourism #checkingoodplaces #goodplaces
I had the opportunity to visit Wartburg Castle in Thuringia, Germany, a historic and magnificent castle. Built in the 11th century, it was once the residence of Saint Elizabeth and religious reformer Martin Luther. It is also a symbol of German culture and nationalism. In 1999, it was listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
I took a bus from Eisenach to the foot of the castle, and then walked up the mountain, enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Thuringian Forest along the way. After arriving at the castle, I joined a German-speaking guided tour and learned more about the history and architecture of the castle. What impressed me most was Luther's room, where he spent ten weeks translating the New Testament into German, which had a profound impact on German language and literature. I also admired the castle's banquet hall, knight's hall, church and museum, and felt the medieval atmosphere and the charm of art.
In addition to the castle itself, I also strolled around the nearby town and tasted local food and specialties such as sausages, beer, and wooden souvenirs. I think Wartburg is a place worth visiting. Not only can you experience German history and culture, but you can also enjoy the beauty of nature and the warmth of human feelings. If I have the opportunity in 2024, I must go back to learn more about German history and culture.
