My Time Traveling to the Past
When you visit the 4th floor of the Busan 40 Steps Culture Center, you’ll find a space that brings you closer to the daily lives of Busan citizens during the era of war and refuge. The exhibition hall features a recreated small room of refugees from the 1950s, displaying essential items such as coal briquettes, pots, traditional wooden chests, clothing, and other household goods neatly arranged.
Through realistic models, historical photographs, and explanatory panels, visitors can calmly explore the hardships faced during that time and the role Busan played. The recreated single-room exhibit allows you to imagine how a family managed to live and persevere in such a confined space.
Although the exhibition area is modest in size, the well-crafted models and props create a profound impact even within a short visit. Typically, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to view the exhibit thoroughly, but those with a keen interest can spend more time examining each detail.
For families with children, this space serves as a living educational experience of modern history, while adults can reminisce about the past. Beyond the 4th floor, exploring other levels of the center provides a deeper understanding of the lives of Busan refugees, and any questions can be directed to the on-site guides.
Though not expansive, the center is rich in historical significance, making it a recommended spot for those who wish to briefly immerse themselves in the past while staying in downtown Busan.
