#getgoing2025 Taking the train from Catania to Taormina was an unforgettable experience. The route follows the coastline, offering breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea. I recommend sitting on the left side of the train for the best scenery. The journey itself was just over an hour and was both comfortable and affordable. When I arrived at Taormina-Giardini station, I took a short bus ride up to the town, perched high above the sea. Wandering through the charming streets, I was enchanted by the colorful buildings, quaint shops, and stunning views of the surrounding coastline. The highlight of my visit was the ancient Greek Theatre, where the blend of history and panoramic sea views left me speechless. For travelers, here are a few tips: wear comfortable shoes, as the streets are steep and cobblestoned. Bring a camera—the views are worth capturing at every turn. And don’t miss trying granita, a refreshing Sicilian treat, from a local café. Taormina is a perfect day trip, combining natural beauty, history, and delicious food. The journey there and back was just as memorable as the destination.

Taormina is perfect because of staying in this hotel. The hotel is located near the Grand Theater, three or two minutes away from the park, and the parking lot is also convenient. 15 euros a day, which is cheaper than many hotels. The hotel's invincible sea view is very good. The breakfast is rich, and the orange juice is freshly squeezed on the spot. It's delicious. The hotel's swimming pool is like a glass tank, which is very interesting. It's very enjoyable to watch the beautiful scenery and swim. A complete guide to Isola Bella can easily achieve a day trip around Milan 1 Depart from Milano Centrale Station to Stresa, which takes about 1h, with a round-trip ticket costing 17 euros. 2 Get off at Stresa, use Google Maps to locate Carciano, and you'll find the boat ticket office, with two options (a round-trip to Bella Island for 10 euros per person, or a three-island pass for 15 euros per person, which includes Madre, Pescatori, and Bella). Personally, I think the three-island pass is more cost-effective 3 Three-Island Pass Lido: Once you have the pass, look for boats with the Lido sign. They will take you to the first stop, Madre, then to Pescatori, and finally to Bella Island. (Note: For the return trip, you must also find a boat with the Lido sign) 4 Personal recommendation: Madre and Bella Islands are truly worth visiting. Madre Island has both a botanical garden and animals, great for photography. Pescatori Island is mostly for dining and shopping (recommend trying the grapefruit and lemon candies, 6 euros per pack). No need to say much about Bella Island!! Please see the picture above (Regarding tickets: both Madre and Bella Islands require tickets for visiting, a combined ticket for both islands is 34 euros, which I personally recommend)

If you want to get a good location a few minutes away form the main street of Toarnina without paying 500euro/night ! This is probably the best spot. The staff makes this place a 5 stars review. Big thanks to Mario and Antonella. She gave us great advice and make us save money on beach club . They can help you organize a lot of things on the area and they know all the tricks to save some money. The only little negative of the hotel is the fact that it's between to busy streets. The noise is not a issue but the smells of the gas on the patio... However try to find a view for that price... Lastly the room are a little old and you can hear your neighbors in the hallway. In front of the beach is the lovely little island of Isola Bella. The cable car station is just outside the city gate on Via Pirandello, and it only takes 3 minutes to get to the beach. Those who like hiking can also walk down the slope and stairs from the city center and reach the beach in about half an hour. Next to it is the famous small island Isola bella (Bella Island), which is a very unique view, especially when looking down from a high angle. The sea water is clear and the bottom is visible, the emerald green is dazzling. If you want to walk to Isola Bella, the only way is to take off your shoes and wade through the water. I chose to hike to Isola Bella and then take the cable car back to the city center. Recommended winter travel destination - Taormina! After taking the train to Taormina Railway Station, you need to take a taxi or bus up the mountain. We took a taxi up the mountain because we were carrying luggage and didn't want to wait for the bus. But taking a taxi up the mountain just took us to the other end of the road. However! Isola Bella is dominated by its sumptuous Baroque palace, along with a luxuriant Italian-style garden, which reaches a height of 37 metres and is laid out on ten terraces. Many parts of the palace are open to visitors: richly furnished rooms and opulent salons embellished with priceless artworks. The garden is full of flowers and exotic plants of great rarity, which grow thanks to the particularly mild climate of the Borromean Gulf. Sicily is one of those rare destinations that will deliver what you're looking for all year round. ☀️ Visit in summer for unbeatable sun and luxurious lidos ⛅ Visit in low or shoulder season for serene moments while renting a car and navigating the beautiful clifftop towns This time, I actually visited in the shoulder season. 🏝️ My week started with a visit to Isola Bella, just of the coast of Taormina - you have to visit this area on your visit to Eastern Sicily. At low tide, take the short walk over to the island for a beautiful perspective of the Sicilian coast. Enjoy a cocktail or three at the local seafront Trattoria. 🏰 The town of Aci Castello was next on my list, featuring a grand Norman Castle. The town became popular after a devastating Mount Etna eruption displaced locals across the island and forced them to retreat to towns like this. The only noise you'll get here is the sound of the crashing waves against the castle walls. 🏛️ If you're hiring a car, I'd recommend a journey over to Syracuse, a small city steeped in Greek tradition. Greek influence shines here and there's even a Greek theatre to remind you of the island's deep history. ⛱️ Next it was onto Giardini Naxos, a charming seaside resort with a plethora of traditional Trattorias and even archaeological museums. 🍽️ The last evening of my trip and I had to visit Taormina again, to enjoy the last few hours of the sun. I took a seat at the local Ristorante and enjoyed impeccable antipasti and sympathetic service from the locals. We love Sicily! From Palermo to Cefalù, from Taormina to Catania! Filled with passion, hospitality and amazing landscape! Sicily has a lot to offer to the world. The rich history, heritage buildings, and breathtaking sights. The food, we had a great experience in Taormina and Catania. The seafood especially the fishes and prawns. Our favourite city was Taormina. It was really beautiful but not as busy as the Amalfi Coast. We enjoyed the beaches and the peacefulness of the place. It was not overloading with tourists.

From the balcony, we could see the entire town of Taormina spread across the mountains, its layered rooftops like grains of time piled up, occasionally accompanied by the distant echo of waves crashing against the shore. At dawn, a faint mist hovered over the sea, as if someone had draped a veil between the sky and the earth. The wind still carried a hint of mountain chill, and we stood by the balcony wrapped in towels, silent and unhurried, making no plans. An old building peeked out from the trees, with light blue fabric drying on its windowsill. In that moment, it struck me how simple life could be—just a room facing the sea and an undisturbed morning. 🐚【Morning at the Beach｜A One-Person Theater】 Following a small path downhill led us to the beach. One of Taormina’s famous shores, it was covered in sand mixed with pebbles, slightly rough underfoot, but the water was astonishingly clear, as if the sky had been poured into the sea. We found an empty spot, set up a parasol, and dragged over two lounge chairs, feeling pinned in place by the sunlight. Not far away, a woman slowly stepped into the water, sunlight glinting off her shoulders, the surface refracting tiny stars. She wasn’t in a hurry to swim but stood there, feeling, then took step after step into the depths.
