Each early April, about 500 cherry trees blanket its rolling hills in soft pink, harmonizing with distant Mount Tsukuba to create a breathtaking rural panorama. 🌳 Park Highlights 1. #cherryblossom25 Shizumine Furusato Park in Ibaraki is what I’d call a hidden wonderland. It's famous for its yaezakura — the double-petaled cherry blossoms — and they create a richer, more textured look than the typical sakura you see elsewhere. I came in mid-April, just after the standard blossoms started fading in Tokyo, and was so glad I did because the yaezakura were still in full glory. The park has over 2,000 trees, and there's this gentle slope where you can walk through layers of blossoms — I felt like I was floating in a sea of pink. It wasn’t too crowded, so I took my time, snapped tons of close-up flower shots, and even had a peaceful picnic under one massive tree. People in the park were warm and chatty, and I loved seeing how many locals were just soaking up the sun and sakura. Totally deserves more love on #cherryblossom25.

Founded by the monk Kaihan in 1386, this temple is the 25th of the 36 Fudoson sacred sites in northern Kanto. The main image is Acala, a statue that was the principal image of the 540,000 koku Satake clan. Other statues enshrined here include a seated Yakushi Nyorai statue made in the Muromachi period, which was said to have been given to the temple by Mito Mitsukuni, a standing statue of Prince Shotoku, and a Bishamonten statue said to have been made by the Buddhist sculptor Unkei in the mid-Kamakura period. I visited "Ageya" in Naka City. The deep-fried foods are delicious, but they also have skewered fried foods, sashimi platters, and sashimi set meals. They also have a large selection of alcoholic drinks. The mixed set of fried shrimp and pork fillet cutlet was served in a boat-shaped platter! I was surprised. It came with rice, miso soup, a small bowl of hijiki seaweed, a small bowl of pickles, and a small bowl of tartar sauce. The water had lemon in it, so it was refreshing. After the meal, we were served hot tea. Thank you for the meal. #NakaCity

It takes 25 minutes on foot from Shizu Station on the Suigun Line to Shizumine Furusato Park. The Yaezakura Festival in Shizumine Furusato Park runs from the end of April to the beginning of May. Everything turns pink, and the evening lighting turns the local places into a fabulous world.
