#2024Travel Review
Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine has a long history. It is said to have been built in the 6th century AD and the Kofun culture was introduced during the reign of Emperor Kinmei. Since the construction of Kawagoe Castle during the Muromachi period, Ota Dokan has been revered as the guardian of the castle and the head office of the area, and is called "Okioka-sama". During the Edo period, he was revered by successive castle lords as the chief guardian of the territory. The current main shrine is beautifully carved in Edo and was donated in 13th year by the castle lord Matsudaira Shigetsugu and his descendants. It is also worshipped as the "god of marriage" as it houses the spirits of the couple and their families, and on sunny days you can see the bride in all white.
The Kawagoe Festival held in mid-October is an ancillary festival of the Hikawa Shrine's annual festival. Various Shinto ceremonies are held throughout the year, including the "Enmusubi Wind Chimes" on Tanabata and in the summer, and the "School Bag Purification Ceremony" to pray for traffic safety and academic success for children attending elementary school. spring. The lush green area is popular not only with admirers but also as a recreational spot for citizens who enjoy the colors of the four seasons.
