Jianchang Temple was built in 1253. The first abbot was the eminent monk from the Southern Song Dynasty, Lanxi Daolong (that is, Zen Master Dajue, 1213-1278). He came to Japan in 1246 at the age of 33. He first gave lectures at a temple in Kyoto, and later came to Kamakura, where he was reused by the rulers of the Kamakura shogunate, participated in the construction of Kenchoji Temple, and was elected as the first abbot after completion. At that time, Japan advocated Buddhism and Chinese culture, and in the era when Lanxi Daolong presided over the Jianchang Temple, Chinese should be echoed in the entire temple.
