Maizuru Park is a 15-minute walk from Tenjin and close to the nearest station, Ohori Park Station. The symbol of the park is the ruins of Fukuoka Castle, which is associated with Kuroda Kanbei. It is a famous spot for cherry blossoms in spring. Depending on the season, you can enjoy water lilies and lotus flowers on the waterside of Maizuru Park. When I visited (June 17, 2023), yellow water lilies were blooming. There are also lotus flowers in another moat, so you can probably see them from now on. Both water lilies and lotus flowers bloom in the morning, so if you go for a walk in the morning, you will be able to see beautiful flowers. The hydrangeas were in full bloom and were beautiful. From mid-May to June, you can enjoy irises at Maizuru Park. It was great to be able to see so many irises at once. Many people were out walking to look around and take pictures, but I was able to spend a good time with the pretty flowers in a quiet atmosphere. The path from here to Ohori Park, past the Fukuoka Castle ruins, is also lush with greenery, which is really nice. I think it would be a unique experience to visit while taking a morning walk.
