Matsushiro Castle was originally called Kaizu Castle, and was built by Yamamoto Kansuke to control northern Shinano by Takeda Shingen. It was the base of the Takeda forces during the Battle of Kawanakajima. After the Sanada clan became the feudal lord in the Edo period, the name was changed to Matsushiro Castle, and now the Sanada Treasure Museum, which displays armor used by the Sanada clan, is adjacent to it. The park is built around the old ruins — stone foundations, moat remnants — all surrounded by dozens of mature sakura trees. I loved the slightly worn feeling of it, like a place history didn’t quite let go of. Families were out picnicking under the trees when I visited, and the scent of grilled yakisoba from food stalls mixed with the fresh smell of sakura petals. #2024 Trip Review **Matsushiro Castle, Nagano City** 2024 is coming to an end. I went to many places this year. One of the most memorable to me was Matsushiro Castle in Nagano City! Transportation: Easily accessible by bus. Introduction: The ruins of this castle are spectacular and the surrounding parks are also a great place for a pleasant walk.

#2024wish The site of the Sanada family's castle. Cherry trees are planted, and the cherry blossom viewing season may be good. If you go there normally, it doesn't have that much impact. In 2023, I went twice in summer and autumn, but a large gate was under construction, so it was not good. However, there are other gates, and it's quite well made, and it's worth seeing. There is also a private house right near the castle, and I wonder if there are people who used to serve it. There were also many great houses. The museum was also worth seeing. The parking lot is wide and free, and it is close to the entrance of the highway. I think there are many history fans who take the strongest theory of Sanada, a military commander in the Sengoku period, but I am one of them. When I have something to do in Nagano City, I would like to stop by while I'm at it.

Historical town with various attractions to spend the whole day exploring on foot. Yes, on foot exploration is the best despite the distance. Take a bus from Nagano station (bus 30 for Matsushiro). It’s more worth to buy a day pass from Nagano bus station for JPY1300 which covers Zenkoji and Matsushiro. The bus ride is about 30 min. Alight at Matsushiro Eki stop and adventure starts.
