🌿Take a less crowded road to see the most stunning Auckland skyline | Devonport: North Head Summit + Naval Museum Walk
Compared to the commercial trip of taking a boat, I prefer to go to the back mountain trail of Devonport and walk to this secret highland where only locals come 👉 North Head Summit
Here you can see the entire Auckland coastline, the naval port, the 101 building (Sky Tower) in full view, and you can also see the Rangitoto volcanic island in the distance🌋
The Naval Museum at the foot of the mountain is another slow-paced time machine.
🚶♀️Recommended route|Easy half-day hike
📍Depart from Devonport Ferry Terminal (get off the ship)
➡️Walk along the coast for about 15 minutes (pass by a small beach)
➡️Arrive at the entrance of North Head Reserve
➡️Walk up along the military bunker trail (about 15-20 minutes to the top)
➡️After reaching the top, you can see 270 degrees of sea + city view
➡️Go down the mountain and return to the Naval Museum
➡️After viewing the exhibition, go back to Devonport city for coffee and take the boat back
🧭Highlights of North Head Summit
🏞️Panoramic view: Unobstructed 360-degree view, the best high ground for photographing the city and the sea and sky
🏰Hidden bunker maze: The hills contain early military bunkers, turrets and tunnels used for defense, which can be explored
📸 Best time to take photos: 9:00-11:00 am in the morning, or in the evening when the sunset is backlit and the silhouette is the most beautiful
🎬 The atmosphere is strong, and it looks like the scene in Hayao Miyazaki's animation "Castle in the Sky"
⚓ Devonport Navy Museum
🎟️ Tickets: Free admission
🕰️ Opening hours: 10:00-17:00
👀 Exhibit highlights: World War II submarine models, military uniforms, stories of naval missions throughout the ages, simulated cockpit experience
It is especially recommended to bring headphones to participate in the free audio guide, which is very immersive!
There is also a small cafe in the museum. It is just right to have a cup of Flat White after climbing the mountain~
🎒Reminder
The summit is a plain grassland, please wear comfortable shoes
The sea breeze is strong on the hill, it is recommended to bring a windbreaker or hat
The bunker part is dark and low, please be careful of your head
For shooting, it is recommended to bring an ultra-wide-angle lens or a mobile phone in 0.5x mode, which can capture the magnificent proportion of people and the sky
