I went to the "Vallotton Black and White" exhibition at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum of Art! 🏃 I was looking forward to this exhibition because I loved Vallotton when I saw him at a previous exhibition 🎨 As expected, the expressions of people living in Paris were very vividly expressed in the finely carved prints. At the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, located just a short walk from Tokyo Station, an art exhibition focusing on Renoir and Cezanne from the collections of the Musee de l'Orangerie and Musee d'Orsay in France is currently being held. Photography is permitted inside, with some exceptions. The exhibition rooms are on the second and third floors, and you can also view the small exhibitions on the first floor. If you have a long umbrella, place it in the locked umbrella stand at the entrance, and if you have large luggage, store it in a free locker before viewing the exhibition. Audio guides can be rented on the second floor. Cash only. Prepare for 650 yen. The narrators are Wataru Hatano and Yoshimasa Hosoya. The two will give a 30-minute commentary on the roles of Renoir and Cezanne. The following is the information I found online: It was originally built in 1894 and designed by British architect Josiah Conder. This building is the first Western-style building in Tokyo's Marunouchi area with red bricks as its main feature. It serves as the office building of Mitsubishi Corporation. It witnessed the early development of the Mitsubishi Group and also carries the important history of Japan's modernization process. Since the end of the 19th century, Mitsubishi Group has successively purchased large tracts of land in the Marunouchi area and built this area into the "Wall Street of Tokyo", gathering many financial and commercial institutions. As the starting point of this development plan, the No. 1 Museum has become one of the symbols of Marunouchi as a commercial center. The original building was demolished in 1968 due to disrepair, but the Mitsubishi Group rebuilt the museum in 2009 according to the original design and transformed it into the Mitsubishi No. 1 Museum. You can enjoy the antique atmosphere and it is always crowded. It is a very popular cafe so I recommend making a reservation 🙂 This time I went at lunchtime, Reservations can only be made at 11:00 for lunchtime, so at other times you have to wait in the waiting area inside the building until you are called. When I went there, there were about 10 people in line, but I was shown to my seat in about 30 minutes. There are exhibition tie-up menus and regular menus (3 types). #tokyotravel the art work is housed in a Victorian style building - something that is truly unique in Tokyo. I am tempted to take away a star for them not having English audio guides however their collection speaks for themselves Lots of works weren’t allowed to be photographed which made the experience cooler just knowing you’re seeing authentic art that can only be seen in person! the exhibit showcased when i went was Henri Toulouse Lautrec i could tell so much heart and passion was put into curating this exhibit!
