This Indonesian volcano trip not only offered spectacular natural scenery but also gave us a glimpse into the hard labor of local sulfur miners. These workers carry up to 70 kilograms of sulfur daily, traversing rugged and steep mountain paths. The physical burden they bear is unimaginable. Despite their generally frail appearance, they have to engage in this highly challenging work for years, which evokes both admiration and sorrow. During our climb, we witnessed the process of sulfur extraction and production. We saw the miners digging, breaking, and carrying sulfur step by step. At the end of a long day, their wages were pitifully low. We tried to greet them kindly and take some photos to document our journey. However, shortly after we started taking pictures, one of the miners immediately gestured for money. We smiled and politely responded, "Sorry," but the miner's attitude changed instantly, showing obvious displeasure and even a hint of impatience and indifference. It can be said that tourism has indeed brought income to the area, but it has also changed the way people interact with each other. What used to be simple greetings are now equated with money, making one lament that when tourism becomes a part of livelihood, some of the most genuine interactions gradually lose their essence.

Day 1 – Arrival & Rest in Senaru I flew from Singapore to Lombok and made my way to Senaru. It was a chill day for rest, gear check, and meeting the trekking crew. I stayed near the trailhead and visited Sendang Gile Waterfall for a light warm-up. Early sleep to prep for the climb ahead! Day 2 – Trek to Segara Anak Lake We started our Mount Rinjani trek from Sembalun in the early morning. The climb took us through grassy savannahs, then up to the crater rim before descending into the crater. We camped by Segara Anak Lake — surrounded by towering cliffs and misty peaks. Magical vibes. Day 3 – Summit Day! We woke up in the dark and started our summit push from the lake around 2–3am. The climb was steep, sandy, and mentally tough — but reaching the Mount Rinjani summit (3,726m) at sunrise made it all worth it. Watching the clouds spill over the crater rim with the lake below was absolutely breathtaking. After descending back to the lake, we spent the rest of the day resting and preparing for the hike out. Day 4 – Hot Springs & Descent via Torean Route This was our final day on the mountain. We started the morning with a relaxing soak in the natural hot springs beside the lake — the best way to soothe post-summit legs. After that, we hiked out via the Torean route, which was incredibly scenic: waterfalls, bamboo bridges, river crossings, and lush jungle all the way. By late afternoon, we returned to civilization and checked in to Swiss-Belcourt Lombok — clean, modern, and so comfy after 3 nights of roughing it. Day 5 – Recovery & Return to Singapore I had a slow morning at the hotel, enjoyed a hearty breakfast, then made my way to the airport for my flight home. From gili t we booked the 3 day 2 night mount rinjani trekking. We stayed in a hotel in senaru the night before then began trekking at 8am the next day, walking for 7 hours to the crater rim and camping. The next day we descended to the lake and back up to the crater rim at rinjani base camp. On the final day we walked 3 hours to the summit for sunrise starting at 2:30am, then back down to base camp for breakfast and descended.

Joined for 3 days Rinjani hike start off by picking up from hotel and reach Sembalun village for registration and proceed to Entrace to start of the hike. Day 1 awarded with low elevation view that's not as drastic as the next day with elevation gain of 1,539m with 10km distance and camp in Sembalun Crater Rim . Day 2 will be the longest and toughest hike as it started off with late midnight to ascend to peak catch sunrise elevation gain of 1539m. Then go back to campsite and descend to crater only to ascend again to another crater rim that we will stay for a night which is Senaru Crater Rim down and up for 6040m. We barely reach just before sunset. Ofcoz this is also the most rewarding journey with best view both ascending into peak and descending into crater. On the last day 3, final descend of 2040m and reach Senaru gate. Overall the trip is consider tough and one can consider break in into 4 days instead but will have to bear to stay in campsite with no toilet and shower. #indonesiatrip #rinjani

The boat ride takes 1 hour and the car ride takes 4 hours in total🚢🚘 Day 4️⃣ 06:00 Get up to catch dolphins🐬 And passed by Urumqi and went down to the manual kayak to work for 3 hours🪖 2 hours by boat and 3 hours by car to reach the southern part of Bali Finns at night watching handsome men and beautiful women 🍸 Day 5️⃣ 06:00 Wake up and take a car to the pier to go to Penida Island for sunbathing and walking 🌊 At night, Potato Head eats and then goes back to the hotel for a swim 🏊 6 hours by car and boat 🚘🚢 At least 2 hours of walking (sweating and sunburned🥵) Day 6️⃣ 09:00 Get up and pack your luggage to take a boat to Lombok It takes 5 hours to get to the island by car and 5 hours by boat. Day 7️⃣ Rinjiani Day 1 06:30 Wake up and take a car to the mountainside to start climbing in the rain to 2,700 meters to the summit base camp to rest ⛺️ 1 hour by car, 9 hours hiking on the original muddy road, 11.22 kilometers 🚶🌲🌧️ Climb 1,506 meters Day 8️⃣ Rinjiani got up at 02:00 the next day and climbed to the summit in the dark to 3,726 meters. Then climbed down to the volcanic lake campsite at an altitude of 2,000 meters to rest 🌋⛺️💦 A total of 14 hours and 26 minutes of hiking 17.20 kilometers 🧗 Day 9️⃣ Rinjiani Last day, got up at 04:00 and climbed back up the mountainside, out of the rainforest and back to the city to catch the flight tomorrow⛰️ A total of 11 hours of hiking 16.59 kilometers 🌲 The flight was delayed on the 🔟th day. First boat rush at Inside 🏄‍♀️ and then fly to Thailand 🇹🇭

I hike few mountains before, but never this difficult. 5 of us, we didn't train for it. Let's just say some of us took longer than the others climbing up. Luckily day job as a manual labourer and puts me much more physically fit to climb. The trip on the first day starts from noon to evening where you reach the base camp for the sunset. Few hours later at 2am, you start the hike of your life in the darkness. Putting all four of your limbs to hike, water wasn't enough. That moment is physical and mental push for your life to reach the peak by sunrise. We didn't reach by sunrise. First guy to the last guy that reach the peak was 3h apart. It's worth it to accomplish that climb. Also you have to go back down which is another 1-2h walk #treking #hiking #mountrinjani
