Here, a row of white houses is built along the hillside, giving off a Greek and Italian vibe. There are many restaurants offering cuisines from different countries, such as Turkish, American, and Mexican dishes. It doesn't feel like Japan at all~ I ended up choosing a sea-view restaurant to enjoy a steak meal. The scenery was so relaxing. Gyokusendo Cave (Free parking lot) - About a 30-minute drive away, you can marvel at the wonders of nature that took hundreds of thousands of years to form. The underground stalactite cave boasts over a million stalactites. The tranquil and dimly lit cave is incredibly calming. Outside, there are various Okinawan cultural displays, such as traditional musical instruments and glass-blowing performances. If you're interested in Okinawan culture, you'll likely spend a long time exploring here~ (Note: Closing time is 4:00 PM, so plan your visit accordingly to avoid missing out on key attractions.) Originally, I planned to visit the DMM Aquarium afterward, but I was too tired and decided to postpone it to the next morning. Day 2: Northern Naha DMM Aquarium (Free parking lot) - This is a new aquarium in Naha. Unlike traditional aquariums, DMM Aquarium offers semi-open pools simulating shallow seas, complete with wave sounds and lighting effects, making you feel like you're truly at the beach. Besides marine life, there are also land animal exhibits and limited feeding experiences. I tried feeding a sloth this time—it was so adorable, hanging on a tree and slowly grabbing the carrot slice. Pokemon Center (Free parking lot) - Located in Aeon Mall, the Pokemon Center needs no introduction! Although it's not as large as the one in Osaka, for a fan like me, it was enough to spend all my travel budget there! Nakagusuku Castle (Free parking lot) - The ruins of the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom, located on a hill where you can overlook both the eastern and western areas. The stone-built ruins exude a strong sense of history! Shurijo Castle (Prefectural paid parking lot) - Unfortunately, the castle was previously damaged by fire, so what I saw this time was the reconstruction process. Side note: There are many cats and ducks nearby, super cute. Day 3: Northern Village/American Village Blue Cave Diving (Parking provided by the diving company) - The most recommended activity! You must go diving in Okinawa. Once underwater, you'll see tropical fish that you usually only see in movies or games. If you're not comfortable with scuba diving, snorkeling will still offer amazing views! Cape Zanpa Lighthouse (Free parking lot) - One of the few lighthouses in Japan you can climb. American Village (Both free and paid parking available, but it gets crowded starting at dusk) - The most beautiful spot! This place feels like a parallel universe, with American-style architecture and people from all over the world gathering here. There are also street performances and fireworks at night, making it hard to leave. Day 4: Nago City Nago Pineapple Park (Free parking lot) - A pineapple-themed botanical park, suitable for family activities. They also sell pineapple-related snacks and drinks—I regret not buying more! Churaumi Aquarium (Free parking lot) - This is probably the most famous attraction in Okinawa besides Kokusai Street. While the overall experience was good, I found DMM Aquarium's presentation more innovative and interesting. Churaumi Aquarium is often crowded, making it hard to take good photos. Some display tanks require queuing, which felt a bit congested and slightly detracted from the experience. Day 5: Okinawa's northernmost point, return car in Naha Cape Hedo - The northernmost point of Okinawa, about 50 km from Nago City. If the weather and your energy allow, it's a great spot to watch the sunrise. The eastern side is completely unobstructed, allowing you to see the sun rise from the sea horizon. Unfortunately, it was raining heavily when I visited, so I could only check in without seeing the sunrise. Hopefully, someone else can witness it for me! 📍【Must-Visit Attractions】 1. Diving in Okinawa 🤿! The shallow waters here are stunningly beautiful, filled with colorful tropical fish. This time, I joined a scuba diving session with Umi Diving Company. Before visiting the International Street Yatai Village, I initially thought it was just a small market. However, upon arrival, I discovered that this street is filled with a variety of delicious food options. When we first arrived, we were a bit lost, but we found a very thoughtful map at the entrance showing the names of the 20 restaurants, numbered from 1 to 20. There are over 20 different eateries, each offering unique dishes, giving you plenty of choices. Visiting at night is especially atmospheric! This time, we chose restaurant No. 11, "Kushiyaki Karasu," a specialty shop for chicken and pork skewers. The restaurant has about eight small counter seats surrounding the chef's cooking area. Right in front of us were rows of skewers, and we enjoyed eating and drinking alongside other diners from afar. Prime location! Just a 2-minute walk from Makishi Station on the monorail, which is essentially the starting (or ending) point of International Street! Makishi Station is equipped with elevators, making it super convenient to transfer from the airport via the monorail to Makishi Station. Simply take the elevator down and walk 2 minutes to the hotel—effortless! For those driving, the hotel offers a parking plan for 2,000 yen per day. The parking spot is fixed until check-out, ensuring convenience whether you need your car early or late. The hotel staff will guide you to park. The hotel has various facilities, including late-night snacks, tea, and activities. However, since we were out most of the time, we didn’t use them. You can check other reviews for more details. As for service, communication in both Chinese and English is smooth. The staff is very polite and professional. During check-in, they even give each guest a flower as a souvenir. Agu Pork Shabu-shabu Miruku Naha When talking about Okinawa Agu pork, most people will probably think of the century-old Furu family and the super popular Agu pork dish! However, for tourists like me who don’t rent a car and drive themselves, it is not very convenient to go to the century-old ancient house because it is too far away. I saw a recommendation for this Agu Pork Shabu Shabu online, but it's not very popular in terms of searches and discussions. It's located near the Kencho-mae Light Rail Station, making it more convenient for tourists who don't drive. Because we didn't make a reservation in advance that day, we rushed to eat as soon as the store opened for fear of not getting a seat. The space inside the store is very large and it is very comfortable to dine in. We ordered the Agu pork shabu-shabu set meal, which includes appetizers, meat plates, vegetable plates, noodles, eggs, and a special dipping sauce of yuzu pepper. The appetizers were seaweed salad, Okinawa specialty peanut tofu, and braised Agu pork. Among them, I preferred the seaweed salad, which tasted refreshing. Then, needless to say, the Agu pork plate had no meaty smell, and the meat was tender and had the sweetness of pork. You can choose to eat it in two different ways, with eggs or yuzu pepper, and it won't be greasy at all. The vegetable plate was the only meal we ordered, the vegetables were all very sweet and refreshing, and the simple way of eating it was very satisfying! Ryukyu no Ushi is famously hard to book. Originally, the International Street branch was fully booked about a month before our trip, but I kept checking for openings out of boredom and managed to snag a reservation when a spot opened up! (I was even considering staying a night in Onna just to dine at their Onna branch 😂). On the day of our visit, there were already many people lining up outside the restaurant. We had a reservation for the 5:00 PM opening time. Some online guides suggest trying your luck by lining up before the restaurant opens if you don’t have a reservation, but on the day we dined, there were no extra seats available for walk-in customers. So, it’s best to book in advance. I was filled with anticipation for this meal before we even set off, and it did not disappoint! Even my mom, who doesn’t usually eat beef, said it was delicious. I’ve tried barbecue at izakayas recommended online during previous trips to Okinawa, and they were good too, but Ryukyu no Ushi clearly offers a more diverse selection. The seating is spacious and comfortable, and the quality of the meat is excellent. Despite the marbling, it wasn’t overly greasy. Every time I visit Okinawa, I make sure to stop by this izakaya. This time, one meal wasn't enough, so I planned for two. Upon landing, I headed straight to Ikesu no Ginji (Shintoshin branch), a place I visited last time. Unfortunately, my favorite sea urchin rice ball was replaced with a new version—sad. For the second meal, I decided to check out Mekiki no Ginji (Shintoshin branch), which has a Studio Ghibli vibe (P1). However, when I arrived at 5:40 PM, the daily specials of fresh shrimp sashimi and grilled prawns were already sold out! Key Highlights: 1️⃣ Always try the daily specials. Although the fresh shrimp was sold out, the daily oysters (P3) at JPY 400 each were incredibly fresh and sweet—a must-try. 2️⃣ My personal favorite and obsession is the sea urchin rice ball with raw egg dipping sauce (P2)—you'll miss it once you've tried it. 3️⃣ A general recommendation is the sea urchin sauce grilled oysters on a hot plate (P4). 4️⃣ Reservations are absolutely necessary. I usually ask the hotel I'm staying at to make the reservation, specifying the date, time, number of people, and even the end time. 5️⃣ For the best photo opportunity at the Studio Ghibli-style entrance, aim for around 6:30 PM. The lighting is perfect—just as the sky starts to darken but hasn't fully turned night, and the lights are beautifully lit.

I came to Okinawa Tomari Fish Market in the morning to taste what everyone calls the freshest fish in Okinawa. Sashimi, nigiri, sea urchin, freshly cut tuna... are all huge pieces and visibly fresh, and the whole market is very clean with no odor at all! The Okinawa First Makishi Public Market (Makishi Market) is located just a 2-minute walk from the "Makishi Station" on the monorail. The market offers a variety of seafood, including pufferfish and Ishigaki beef. The first floor is dedicated to shops, while the second floor serves as a seating area where you can bring seafood purchased on the first floor to be cooked. We picked a shop that caught our eye and bought some seafood. The staff guided us to their restaurant outside the market for cooking and dining. We bought fish, prawns, and luminous clams. The fish was steamed, the luminous clams were served as a cold dish and stir-fried, and the prawns were grilled. After trying all four dishes, we found the flavors to be quite ordinary, reminiscent of banquet-style dishes in Taiwan 🤣.
