Oxford College, located at No. 32 Zhenli Street, Tamsui District, New Taipei City, is now part of the campus of Aletheia University. It is one of Taiwan's most iconic examples of Sino-Western architectural fusion. This red brick building was personally designed and constructed by Canadian Presbyterian missionary Dr. George Leslie Mackay in 1882. Originally named "Oxford College," it was built to honor the support and donations from his hometown community in Oxford County, Canada. The building faces south and features a symmetrical design. Its roof is adorned with eight small spires, replacing the traditional church cross, reflecting Chinese architectural characteristics. The bricks and tiles were imported from Xiamen, and the mortar was made using a mixture of glutinous rice, brown sugar, lime, and sand instead of cement, demonstrating innovative construction techniques of the time. On July 26, 1882, Oxford College was officially completed, and its opening ceremony was held on September 14 of the same year, welcoming its first batch of 18 students. This is 'Jinli University' :) This is the first Western-style university in Taiwan, founded by Canadian missionaries. It was originally called Oxford College, but then changed to Jinli University. There is a large church building with a great atmosphere next to the school gate, and a classic Western-style red brick building, and a cute garden and pond around it, so it was great for a light walk and taking pictures☺️ #Overseas travel

#2024wish The Oxford College was founded by George Leslie Mackay which has closed links to the Presnyterian Church in Taiwan. This schol was foumded in uear 1872, which means it has neen around for more than 150 years. Located within the old streets of Tamsui, the area houses several faculties, a presbytherian church, an old house as rememberence etc. In 1999, this university was renamed Aletheia University, which means truth in Greek. They were organized into five colleges including Humanities, Finance, Economics, Mamagement, 'Tourism, Leisure and Sports' etc. It is open to the public and many visited this place as tourists. I wish to visit Tamsui in Taipei again in year 2024.
