This is an artificial lake in Biei, Hokkaido. Originally, a dam was built on the Biei River to prevent the mudslide of the Tokachi volcano, and this pool of water was accidentally formed. The incredible dreamy blue color of the pool water has made it a world-renowned tourist destination in Hokkaido.
Surrounded by a rich natural environment, the withered larch trees in the pool set off a fairy-tale atmosphere. In spring, the pool water is a gentle and tranquil light blue; in summer, it forms a refreshing contrast with the surrounding green new leaves; in autumn, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the pool water and red leaves. In winter, the surface of the pool is frozen and covered with snow, and the entire scenic area is transformed into a pure white silver world, which seems unreal.
From November to April of the following year, there will be a dreamy lighting event at night. The surface of the pool will glow blue under the light, like a dream, making people linger.
Walking along the wooden plank trails set up by the pond and admiring the forest trails lined with white birch trees is another rare leisurely experience. No matter which season you visit, the Shirogane Blue Pond can show the stunning four-season scenery, and it is one of the tourist attractions in Hokkaido that cannot be missed.

Groundwater seeps out from the cracks in the rocks, pouring down from a height of about 30 meters with a strong momentum, and merges into the Biei River, known as the "Blue River", splashing water. The waterfall is called "Shirahige Falls" because the water flow of the waterfall resembles a white beard.
