👭✨ Phuket Thaihua Museum: Revealing the history of China-Phuket in a chic style, girl friend style
When talking about Phuket, most people probably think of the sea, sky, and sunlight, right? But do you know that behind the greatness of this city, there is a deeper and chicer history than you think! Today, I would like to take you away from the sandy beach to the "old city" to absorb the cultural beauty at "Phuket Thaihua Museum". Let me tell you that it is not only a good place to take pictures, but also worth knowing, learning, and being adored! 🏮✨
📍 Location
This museum is located on Krabi Road in the middle of Phuket's old city. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you have been transported to Shanghai in the 1930s! The white building is in Sino-Portuguese style. (We call it Colonial Chinese style, but Phuket people call it “Old Chinese House”) It looks serious and classic luxury. Walking around gives you the feeling of being beautiful and confident on the red carpet of a period Chinese series.
🧧 The story is very dense, mom!
This museum was originally “the first Chinese school in Phuket” called “Thai Hua School”, built in 1934 by overseas Chinese who moved to Phuket during the tin mining boom. Just think how much importance they placed on Chinese education abroad, to the point of coming together to establish a school!
However, as time passed and the school moved, this area was transformed into a museum instead, while still keeping the original architecture and redecorating it to be beautiful like a foreign cafe mixed with a touch of Chinese culture. It is full of historical information but is so entertaining that you won’t get sleepy!
🎎 What’s inside?
When you walk in, you’ll be amazed at every room! There are exhibitions arranged in different zones, such as…
• History of overseas Chinese and immigration to Phuket
• Daily life culture, such as marriage, eating, and trading
• A room that simulates a classroom for Chinese children in the past Feel like an old-fashioned school
• There is a video point telling stories in Thai and English for easy understanding
• On the upper floor, there is a room exhibiting photos of old Phuket town. Looking at it makes you feel like you have traveled back in time.
And of course… the photo spots are awesome! You can take photos from any corner. The light is beautiful, the walls are beautiful, the doors are stylish, the arched ceiling, the red door, the Chinese curtains, every shot you pose in will come out looking international!
🫶 Special things that many people don't know
This place doesn't just focus on exhibitions, but is also a source of cultural learning. There are workshops teaching Chinese, Chinese cooking classes on occasion, and the best thing is that there is a meeting room for seminars or various cultural events regularly. If you have a large group of friends or are a student coming in a group, you can contact to book in advance!
🕘 Opening and closing times
Open every day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Admission fee:
• Adults 100 baht
• Children, students 50 baht
• Infants under 6 years old get in free!
🚗 Getting there
You can drive your own car. There is parking on the side of the road, but it is recommended to park and walk around the old town. It will give you a great feeling! Or if you don't have a car, you can rent a tuk-tuk or motorcycle and get off at the entrance.
