Uzupis Republic
It’s a small part of Vilnius that has a bit of its own culture and history. There are a few famous sites to see there, like the Uzupis Cat. When you walk up and down the streets, you can also see many small boutique shops and buy some items from there. It’s easy to get there from central Vilnius as many busses go there. Or you can just walk there. It’s good for half a day or a day if you have some free time while visiting the capital of Lithuania.

Vilnius - the hidden gem of Europe
The name Vlnius will undoubtedly conjure a blank expression on many a person in the West. Which is a pity because this quaint, cosy and trendy city is a gem waiting to be discovered and appreciated for its vibrant cultural, architectural and historical heritage. Between every cobblestoned corner you will find a hole in wall cafe with unique brews and gastronomical offerings from the traditional Cepelinai (potato dumplings made with ground meat inside or mushroom or dry curd cheese), to the exotic historical Kibinai/Kibin which is a pastry filled with mutton and onion and originated from the ethnic Karaite settlers who were brought to Lithuania from Crimea during the Middle Ages. The city is compact enough to wander by foot or cheap enough to explore by bus (fares are under a euro on local council buses). Go and do yourself a favour and go off the beaten path…because Vilnius awaits.

A country within a country in Svilnius, the capital of Lithuania - the Republic on the other side of the strait!
This time we chose a bus from Warsaw for about 8 hours and stopped in Vilnius! I think the most interesting thing about this trip is the country within a country full of art! They even have their own constitution, which is really interesting! #LithuaniacapitalVilnius

Welcome to Užupis, the 'Unrecognized Nation'!
Cross the bridge from the Old Town, and you'll find yourself in a 'different country.' Užupis Republic is a unique area where artists declared independence. Since its 'independence' declaration in 1997, this small 'republic' has been enveloped in a spirit of freedom and creativity.
🖋【Užupis Constitution】
This nation has a constitution consisting of 41 articles, displayed on walls in various languages. The content is both amusing and thought-provoking!
💡For example:
- People have the right to live in water.
- No one shall win.
- No one shall surrender.
The more you read, the more you'll chuckle, yet these quirky statements somehow linger in your heart.
📅【Independence Day = April Fools' Day】
Užupis celebrates its Independence Day on April 1st (April Fools' Day)! On this day, there's even a joke about needing a 'passport' to enter. 🤣
📍【Access】
Just a few minutes' walk from Vilnius Old Town! Cross the bridge, and you're in Užupis. The streets are filled with art, making you feel like you're in an open-air gallery. 🎨
✨【Recommended Highlights】
- A free-spirited atmosphere unique to an artists' town.
- Enjoy strolling and reading the 'constitution.'
- Plenty of photo spots, perfect for a leisurely walk.

Famous attractions in Vilnius, Lithuania: Uzupis, the republic across the strait, suitable for taking photos📸
#3月好去处2025
Vilnius, Lithuania is a world-famous tourist resort city, with thousands of tourists coming here every day for sightseeing and vacation. There are many attractions in Vilnius. This time I will introduce a very famous attraction in the local area: the Republic of Uzupis.
Did you know that a group of artists in the world established a country on April Fool's Day? This is not a joke, nor is it performance art, but a real country. This fantasy "small country" - the Republic of Užupio is located in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Užupio means "the other side of the river" in Lithuanian, so it is also called the Republic of Uzupis. The birth of the Republic of Uzupis originated from an April Fool's joke, but its significance far exceeds a simple joke.
After Lithuania's independence in 1990, a group of artists chose to settle here. They transformed this place from a high-crime community during the Soviet era into the most avant-garde community in Lithuania. The artists were eager to create a utopia that would help people escape the troubles of modern life and return to a simple life, so on April 1, 1997, they officially declared the independence of Uzupis, using this unique way to challenge the various norms and restrictions of modern society.

Quick Tips:
• Best time to visit? Mornings 7am till 12pm for the freshest goods and fewer crowds.

• Cash or card? Most stalls take cards, but small vendors might prefer cash.

Discover Uzupis: Vilnius’ Bohemian Republic
The Uzupis Republic, a unique and artsy enclave within Vilnius, Lithuania, declared its independence on April 1st, 1997, embracing creativity and freedom. Known for its small, charming bridge, it connects Vilnius Old Town to this quirky district. Easily accessible on foot, Uzupis is just a short walk from the city center, crossing the Vilnia River. While visiting, explore its street art, galleries, and the humorous Constitution displayed in multiple languages on a wall. For the best experience, visit in the evening when the district comes alive with its cafes, bars, and artistic spirit. #travel #Uzupis #vilnus #lithuania

Exploring the Uzupis Art Incubator in Vilnius was an inspiring journey into the realm of creativity. The vibrant atmosphere pulsated with artistic energy as I immersed myself in the diverse works and creations of talented individuals. The Incubator's commitment to fostering artistic expression was evident in every corner, showcasing a kaleidoscope of mediums and styles.
From avant-garde sculptures to thought-provoking paintings, each piece resonated with passion and originality. Engaging with the artists provided valuable insights into their creative processes, making the visit not just a visual feast but also an enriching experience. Uzupis Art Incubator serves as a testament to Vilnius's thriving artistic community, leaving an indelible mark on my appreciation for unconventional and boundary-pushing art.
In 2024, I wish to visit Vancouver.
