It's my first time at the Snow Festival, and it turns out to be a bit cute. Among all the snow sculptures, I still love Miffy the most. Besides Miffy, there's also Anya, and lots of Studio Ghibli characters. There are also shows at certain times, though they aren't very interesting. The dinosaur from Peking University is really well-made, and some of the buildings are just amazing. Hokkaido is known for its cool and pleasant summer, attracting tourists from various places to visit and relax. In winter, it snows a lot and stays cold for about half a year (from late November to early April). Although the average temperature is around 22°C, from January to February, the temperature can drop significantly to around -12°C to -4°C, which is when we visited. During winter, the Sea of Okhotsk on the eastern side of the island freezes, making sea travel quite difficult. Icebreakers are needed, and our tour included an icebreaker ride, which I will review later. ⛴️⛴️ Fishing activities have to wait until the end of winter. Since Hokkaido is a snowy land, the city of Sapporo holds an annual snow festival in early February. It's a grand event, featuring sculptures of ancient Thai temples and castles. When May went, it was the Sapporo Snow Festival. ❄️☃️ The lowest temperature was -8 degrees, so I dressed in 3 layers. I brought 2 pairs of shoes, but in the end, I only wore the ones that I was sure wouldn't slip because the snow that had been falling for several days was quite slippery. 📱I had to brace myself to take out my phone or camera to take pictures because it was so cold that my hands were frozen. Walking out of Sapporo Station, the cold air hit me in the face, but the crowds and lights instantly dispelled the chill. Odori Park has long been occupied by huge snow sculptures and colorful lights, and every step is like walking into a cartoon scene. From Hokkaido's historical buildings, world attractions to anime characters, each snow sculpture is lifelike and exquisitely detailed, which makes people admire the craftsmanship and creativity of the craftsmen. At night, the light projection combined with music unfolds a visual and auditory feast, especially the sound and light show of the main statue. Each performance attracts hundreds of spectators to stop and even children can't take their eyes off. Although the weather is cold, queuing in front of the hot corn soup and skewers stalls adds a sense of romance to the winter festival. In addition to viewing, the snow festival also encourages interaction. We ran to the ski slope, experienced the small snow house, and exchanged snow photography angles with tourists from all over the world.
