Shoren-in Temple is a famous place for cherry blossom and maple viewing. You can also visit the magical scenery after the lights are turned on at night. It is said that it was moved from Shoren-in Temple on Mt. Hiei in the Heian period. The abbots of each generation were royal princes who became monks. Emperor Kokaku also stayed here temporarily when the Imperial Palace was burned down. It can be seen that Shoren-in Temple has a profound relationship with the royal family. Therefore, the buildings in the temple, such as Shinden, Kogosho, and Kachoden, all have aristocratic and elegant temperament. The pond-style garden with Ryushin Pond as the center is said to have been built by the painter Soami in the Muromachi period. The Kirishima Garden on the north side, which is famous for its azaleas, was built by the tea master Kobori Enshu in the Edo period.
