Must-Visit Historical and Cultural Sites in Tamatsukuri
When visiting Tamatsukuri Onsen, don't just enjoy the rejuvenating hot springs—be sure to explore its fascinating historical and cultural landmarks! This time, I visited Tamatsukuriyu Shrine, Inari Shrine, the Tamatsukuri Ruins, and the Tamatsukuri Fortress Ruins. It felt like a journey through time! 💫
1. Tamatsukuriyu Shrine: A Sacred Spot for Beauty and Love 💖
Nestled deep within the onsen town, this shrine is the guardian of Tamatsukuri Onsen. Its unique feature is the **"Magatama Wishing Ritual"**! You can purchase a magatama (a traditional curved bead) at the shrine, cleanse it with onsen water, and then touch the "Wishing Stone" within the shrine. It's said to grant your wishes, especially for beauty and love! Of course, I gave it a try, hoping to transform into a radiant beauty! ✨
2. Inari Shrine: Mystical Vibes Under the Red Torii Gates 🏮
Though small in scale, the path leading up is lined with vibrant red torii gates, making it incredibly photogenic! Sunlight filtering through the gates creates a serene and sacred atmosphere. This shrine is dedicated to Inari, the deity of harvest and commerce, and is also a great place to pray for good fortune! ⛩️
3. Tamatsukuri Ruins: Discover the Origins of Magatama ⛏️
Tamatsukuri is the birthplace of magatama, and the Tamatsukuri Ruins preserve the remains of ancient magatama production sites. While only a few landmarks and informational signs remain, imagining ancient artisans crafting magatama here is awe-inspiring. There's also a small exhibition area where you can learn about the history and production process of magatama. History buffs, don't miss this! 💎
4. Tamatsukuri Fortress Ruins: A Panoramic View of Tamatsukuri 🏞️
Located on a small hill, this was a fortress of the Amago clan during the Sengoku period. Although only ruins remain and there's no castle tower, hiking up the trail rewards you with a panoramic view of Tamatsukuri Onsen and the surrounding countryside. The climb is a bit challenging, but the breathtaking scenery makes it all worthwhile! Highly recommended for history and nature lovers! ⛰️
Tips:
- Wear comfortable shoes, as some areas require walking or climbing.
- If you have time, spend half a day to a full day leisurely exploring these sites.
