Tracing the Footsteps of Amoy Settlers at Telok Ayer Green
Step into Telok Ayer Green, where the legacy of the Amoy (Xiamen) settlers whispers through the leafy walkways. Once the landing spot of Chinese immigrants seeking fortune in Singapore, this park features heritage markers and sculptures honoring their struggles, trades, and resilience. Against the backdrop of soaring skyscrapers, the serene garden tells tales of coolie laborers, early merchants, and Samsui women who helped build modern Singapore. On Day 2 of my Singapore getaway, I explored the serene Telok Ayer Green, a charming pocket park nestled in the city’s historic heart. Surrounded by lush greenery, shaded paths, and peaceful benches, the park offers a refreshing escape from the urban buzz.
What makes it special is its tribute to Amoy settlers, with bronze sculptures and informative plaques that beautifully depict their journey and contributions to early Singapore. Located beside heritage sites like Thian Hock Keng Temple, Telok Ayer Green blends nature and history in a meaningful way. It’s a quiet, reflective spot perfect for a spring stroll and cultural appreciation.

Telok Ayer Green
#familytrips2024
The Telok Ayer Green talks about the various settlers in the area in the past. They come together in Singapore to settle down here . It talks about the Malay fishing community, and also the development of the temples here . You can also visit those temples on your way here too. Do note the opening hours of the temples. Our dream destination for our family trip is to visit the Phuket Buddhist temple. We will like to visit there during the October period, whereby there is a special event on going. The place would be very exciting and crowded with many people.
