After visiting Guiyang, I discovered that while the climate in May is pleasant, there are several things to be aware of. Without proper planning, you might waste time taking unnecessary detours. Fortunately, I prepared in advance, so here's my guide to share with everyone 👇. Transportation Guide 🚗 • External Transportation: Flights arrive at Longdongbao Airport, which offers multiple transportation options to downtown including subway, buses, and taxis. For high-speed rail, choose Guiyang North Station in Guanshanhu District with convenient subway and bus connections; Guiyang Station is located downtown and also has convenient transportation. • City Transportation: Guiyang has well-developed public transportation, with subway and buses reaching most attractions. For short distances downtown, shared bikes or electric scooters are also options. I don't like group tours ❌ and I'm also afraid of signing shady contracts. ✅So, even though Guizhou is full of group tours, I still chose to travel independently. There's only one advantage to group tours in Guizhou: transportation. But after this trip, I found that it's totally manageable. 👀And independent travel is truly free!! I can make plans and choose attractions as I please. For example, most group tours wouldn't take me to Yelang Valley, which I really wanted to see. So, if you want to travel independently, sisters, you can refer to this⬇️⬇️ 【Day 1】✈️Shanghai - Guiyang 📍Stayed near Huaguoyuan Shopping Center, where there are tons of night markets. I indulged in the night market food; it was cheap and delicious. (Everything in Guiyang has chili powder🌶️... Changwang Noodles are worth trying. If you can't handle spicy food, be sure to tell them in advance! 【Day 2】Guiyang Yelang Valley🗿➕Travel to Libo County 🔸Morning: I've always wanted to go to Yelang Valley. I took a taxi🚖 from the hotel, which cost about💰20–30. The artist Song Peilun👨‍🎨 seems to have created these stone statues in his own image. The details are very interesting; the eyes and mouths are made of tiles. Seeing the comparison photo from 1997 and the scene in front of me now was quite shocking! There were some intangible cultural heritage craftspeople scattered around the park. It was admirable to watch them make all kinds of small things up close👍🏻. Later, I found a pottery workshop through a hidden back door and learned how to mold clay with the teacher👩‍🏫. 🔸Afternoon: I booked a ride through a ride-sharing app the night before🚗. It takes about 4⃣️ hours to drive from Guiyang to Libo (I heard that a high-speed train🚄 will open by the end of this year, which will be much more convenient). So, I basically spent the whole afternoon on the road. The two of us paid💰200+ for a direct ride to a Buyi ethnic minority town at the foot of Xiaoqikong. I think ride-sharing is quite easy to arrange. There was another guy in the car with us. 🥣In the evening, I enjoyed a delicious Miao cuisine dinner in the town. 【Day 3】Libo's Big and Small Seven-Holes Scenic Area🌊 You need to walk a lot, so be sure to wear sneakers👟 on this day. Getting There - a Didi is around 45 minutes from Guiyang city center and takes up to 40 minutes. The outside is clearly identifiable because you can already see columns of stone heads lining up. A ticket will cost around 65rmb. Attractions - This is, as they like to call it "the story of stone", these big facial pillars all lined up in rows are in itself an attraction, there's also a castle you can gaze upon and enjoy the waterway dividing them. Food & Restaurants - there are some small vendors inside and out selling water, drinks and small snacks. Mr. Song designed and built the stone castle in the barren forest with the theme of Nuo's opera's facial make up, masks and characters, and the materials of stones, pottery pieces, and pots that can be seen everywhere, based on a local mountain shape, river direction and its original state. Spend a couple hours exploring these unique stone statues near Guiyang. The park is not very big so 1-2 hours should be plenty. There’s quite a few vendors selling a drinks and snacks and a gift shop with themed art to purchase. If you want to take photos get there early. The sun can create some unattractive shadows so go on a cloudy for better photos. Cost - 20 rmb Getting There - Drive about 45 minutes from the Guiyang city center. This holiday I decided to pick a completely random destination just from looking at a map of China. I decided on Guiyang as I hadn't seen much about it on social media. I am extremely happy with this choice. On the first day we went to the Stone Head Castle built by Song Peilun during his 70s. Each head is uniquely designed and there are more than 200 stone heads on the grounds. This project took him 20 years. From the city, you can take a taxi for 70rmb and that takes 45mins OR you can take a bus for 2 hours. There are plenty of food vendors on site and lots of souvenir shops. Yelang Valley was a very unique and fun trip! It’s a 15 minute drive from Qingyan Ancient Town and about a 45 minute drive from Guiyang. I travelled by taxi which was both easy and cost effective. Admission price was 40rmb and I spent around an hour at the site. A huge stone castle has been built with numerous stone heads dotted around and throughout the grounds. The heads were rather comical, and there seemed to be a stone faced figure to represent all the emotions you can think of.
