The fairytale cottage really exists: Clay Castle of the Valley of Fairies
In the small town of Porumbacu de Sus, Romania, lies Castelul de Lut Valea Zanelor—the Clay Castle of the Valley of Fairies. Located deep in the Transylvania region of Romania, with the majestic Carpathian Mountains nearby, the castle exudes a dreamlike atmosphere.
This castle is handcrafted from natural materials such as clay, straw, wood, and sand, and boasts 10 unique rooms. Its distinctive feature is its construction using entirely traditional building techniques, presenting a primitive and natural appearance.
Romania's Fairy Valley, do elves live here?
◉Castelul de Lut Valea Zanelor, also known as the Clay Castle in Fairy Valley, is a niche attraction located between Brasov and Sibiu, Romania.
◉Driving from Brasov, we checked in at Rasnov Citidal and the famous vampire castle Bran Castle, then came here and finally went to Sibiu.
◉This is actually a small house with only 10 rooms, not a castle. The building has a fairy-tale-like appearance. Architect Raluca și Razvan Vasile's design was inspired by fairy tales and natural curves, using organic shapes that make it look as if it is integrated with the surrounding natural landscape. The environment around the house is also really amazing.
◉I went there at the end of April, and the snow-capped mountains and vast fields along the Carpathian Mountains gave you a feeling of being at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains. This house is located at the foot of the snow-capped mountains and surrounded by beautiful forest scenery. It is particularly peaceful and beautiful. This environment makes the house even more fairy-tale-like.
🚗Transportation: You can only drive by yourself. It takes 1 hour and 50 minutes to get to the Vampire Castle and 50 minutes to drive to Sibiu.
⏱️Opening hours: 10:30-17:30.
🧧You need to buy a ticket with cash to enter, which is 25 leva. The ticket can be used to exchange for a free meal in a small restaurant inside (this operation is a bit magical). There are not many choices. I ordered a chicken steak with French fries. It’s not very delicious but it’s filling.
