One of the life bucket list items 😇 Before setting off, All I can think of for a long flight is body aches; So let's discuss the itinerary before and after. Stay one more night in New York. Sleep in the hotel to replenish your energy. The transfer process is not that tiring. Entering the Spanish-speaking countries in Central and South America, English is useless. Gesticulating body language, It will be the best way to communicate. From Cusco to Aguas Calientes, You need to take a special train in the middle. I happened to take different companies to experience it. Reshui Town is full of the feeling of Wulai, Taiwan. 2024.08.28 The highlight of this trip to Peru - Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World As soon as we arrived in Reshui Town last night, we bought tickets to go to Machu Picchu the next day. Of course, I had already bought the tickets in May, but the tickets for Circle 2 were very popular, so when I bought them at that time, there were only two tickets left, one for 8/28 at 12 noon and one for 2 pm. When waiting for the bus to Machu Picchu, there will be a timetable for buying tickets in front of each queue. Basically, you have to queue up according to the time you buy the ticket. But luckily, today, before queuing to get on the 12 o'clock bus, when the staff checked the tickets, although my friend's time was 2 pm, we both asked if we could take the same bus together. It happened that the person standing behind us understood English and helped us explain to the staff in Spanish. So after some pleading and explanation, he still stamped the ticket and let the two of us take the bus together. We were really lucky! How to get to Machu Picchu? Two ways to get from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu 1. Bus • Price: USD 24/person round trip (about NT$768) • Time: About 20 minutes to reach the entrance of Machu Picchu 2. Walking • Price: Free • Time: 10 km one way, about 1.5-2 hours walking Adhere to the principle of not overworking your body! Of course, we chose to take the bus to Machu Picchu. It is recommended that you go to the bus ticket office to buy tickets when you arrive in Reshuizhen the day before. Remember to bring your passport or ID to buy tickets, because they will check whether you are the real person when you get on the bus. Although I had to get up early and wait for a long time at the gate and to get on the bus, I was finally about to set foot on this mysterious ancient Inca civilization, and my heart was filled with excitement and anticipation. Due to physical factors, we chose the more relaxed way of taking a ride to Reshui Town. Compared to the friends I heard before, they started from Cusco and completed the five-day Salkantay Trek. The entire hiking trip including food and accommodation only cost USD 200 (about NT$6400). This challenge is suitable for friends who have time and physical strength! In the morning, after we had breakfast, we went out at about 9:30, only to find that there was already a large group of people queuing for the bus to Machu Picchu. We immediately joined the queue! While waiting in line, I actually met two people from Lima who had joined the tour group with me yesterday. They also came to Machu Picchu today. We arrived at Machu Picchu around 11:50. Remember to use the toilet before entering. The fee is 2 sol/person (about NT$20), and this is the only toilet, so be careful not to drink too much water before entering so that you can stay inside longer. We didn't hire a tour guide this time, so we were able to stay inside for almost four hours. Although there is no tour guide's explanation, you can take pictures and explore more freely. I saw that those who were traveling in a group or had a tour guide were asked to move quickly to the next explanation point. There are really pros and cons to each. Today can really be said to be a dream come true. I finally saw the Machu Picchu that I had been longing for! I have wanted to come to Peru for many times, and finally it happened! It is actually very easy to take pictures of empty scenery inside Machu Picchu. Just wait until a group of tourists passes by and seize the opportunity to take great photos. Today I also met a family from the United States. The father is over 70 years old. I really admire him when I saw him climbing up and down with his two sons. This experience has made me more determined to travel more when I am young, and not wait until I am old to regret not exploring the world sooner. For dinner, we enjoyed a very cost-effective set meal at a restaurant, which cost only 15 sol/person (about NT$150). Later we went to drink Pisco sour but found that the one here was not as good as the one in Cusco. I was disappointed after trying both, and could only go back to the hotel silently. When visiting Machu Picchu, it is recommended to book your ticket early to ensure you get the circle 2 Complete Classic Circuit tickets, because the route is the longest and most complete! Besides, you’re spending the same amount of money on tickets, so why not go to the longest one? Also, when you enter, the staff will check whether each person's name matches the one on the ticket, so those who want to buy transfer tickets should also remember that the name on the ticket can be changed. Otherwise, if you get to the door and are found to have a different name, you will be kicked out. And bring water, a hat, and sunscreen with you, because it's really sunny inside. Also, selfie sticks are prohibited inside, so there is no need to bring one, because when we took out our selfie sticks, the staff asked us to put them away. 2024.08.27 Today's itinerary took us through several classic spots in the Inca Sacred Valley, showcasing the rich culture of the Inca civilization from traditional weaving techniques to spectacular ancient ruins! The tour we joined actually took us to many places, but because of this, each stop felt rushed. The guide wanted us to understand everything, so the explanations took a long time, leaving very little time for photos or thorough exploration! The guide mentioned that this itinerary is actually suitable for a two-day, one-night trip, but they condensed it into a one-day tour for travelers with limited time. So, for those who like to explore each site slowly, it's recommended to split it into two days; otherwise, it feels quite rushed! Chinchero Our first stop was Chinchero, known as the "City of the Rainbow," one of the agricultural centers of the Inca Empire. Initially, we were taken to see a traditional weaving demonstration. Although this part felt a bit like a sales pitch for textiles, we still learned a lot of interesting craft knowledge. However, what truly amazed me was the visit to Complejo Arqueológico Chinchero. The ruins here blend Inca architecture with Spanish colonial styles, showcasing a unique historical fusion. Unfortunately, the guided tour was too short, especially with only 10 minutes for photos, making the entrance fee (70 sol, about 600 TWD) feel somewhat wasted. The 70 sol ticket includes several ruins for today (excluding the salt mines ticket of 20 sol). If you have the 10-day BTC (Boleto Turístico del Cusco General) ticket for 130 sol like me, you don't need to buy additional tickets. Moray Next, we headed to Moray, an agricultural laboratory of the ancient Incas. The circular terraces of Moray are believed to simulate different climatic conditions for crop growth. Despite the guided tour lasting just over 20 minutes, the scenery and historical significance made it very worthwhile. However, again, the photo time was only 10 minutes, making one wish for more time to appreciate this spectacular place. Salinas de Maras Before heading to the Salinas de Maras salt mines, we were first taken to a shop selling salt products... Here, we had to listen to the guide introduce the salt and taste the products, staying for 30 minutes. The key point is that these products can be bought at the San Pedro market in Cusco. Salinas de Maras, located in the Sacred Valley of Peru, is famous for its spectacular salt mines, used since pre-Inca times. The local salt is produced through a natural process, with mineral-rich spring water flowing into thousands of shallow pools. As the water evaporates under the sun, crystallized salt is left behind. At Salinas de Maras, salt is categorized by different colors and uses: 1. White Salt: This is the purest and most commonly used edible salt, rich in minerals and with a delicate taste. White salt is typically used for cooking and daily seasoning, making it a high-quality souvenir. 2. Pink Rose Salt: This salt contains more minerals, especially iron, giving it a unique pink hue. 3. Yellow Salt: Due to its high mineral content and special color, this salt is suitable for bathing or therapeutic purposes. Yellow salt is often recommended as bath salt, helping to relax the body and promote skin health. The salt mine ticket is 20 sol (about 170 TWD). The Maras salt mines consist of thousands of small salt pools, used since the Inca era. The saltwater comes from underground springs in the Andes, forming crystallized salt through natural evaporation, creating a spectacular sight. This place is particularly suitable for photography, but again, the time felt too short to fully enjoy the beauty here. Urubamba We stopped for lunch in Urubamba, a small town in the Sacred Valley. We had lunch at a buffet restaurant, costing about 30 sol per person (about 250 TWD). The scenery in this small town is beautiful, but we only stayed briefly for the meal. Ollantaytambo At 2:30 PM, we arrived at Ollantaytambo, one of the best-preserved Inca sites. The massive stone walls and magnificent valley views of Ollantaytambo are impressive; this was once the last stronghold of the Inca emperor against the Spanish conquerors. The visit time was only 20 minutes, but this site deserves a longer exploration. Afterward, we walked about 10 minutes to the train station to take the Peru Rail train to Machu Picchu. Aguas Calientes (Hot Water Town) We took the Peru Rail train, and upon arriving at Aguas Calientes, we checked into HTL Samananchis Machupicchu, about a 6-minute walk from the station. Although you can hear the sound of the waterfall from the room, it was still quite comfortable overall. We took the Peru Rail to Machu Picchu station (Aguas Calientes). Buying round-trip tickets from the same company is cheaper with a 10% discount. Round-trip train tickets cost $109 per person (about 3500 TWD). The round-trip bus ticket from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu costs $24 per person (about 780 TWD). The Machu Picchu entrance ticket costs $46 per person (about 1480 TWD). Accommodation in Aguas Calientes costs $48 per night for two nights, averaging 780 TWD per night per person, including breakfast. Oh, we are staying in Aguas Calientes for two nights. Although hot water and food are slightly more expensive than in Cusco, staying an extra night allows for a more relaxed experience. Prices in Aguas Calientes are higher, with a meal costing about 50-60 sol (about 420-500 TWD), while in Cusco, it only costs 20-30 sol (about 170-250 TWD). To save money, we brought instant noodles to Aguas Calientes for dinner, and fortunately, the hotel provided hot water! Because this trip to Machu Picchu cost nearly 7500 TWD! It's truly a dream destination, a once-in-a-lifetime experience, hahaha🤣 Next to the hotel is a shop called Arte Rumi Wasi, selling various jewelry. We had a great time browsing inside, as they have earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, and more made from various stones and crystals. We found that the owner is very good at finding affordable alternatives. I originally liked a pair of silver earrings for 42 sol, but I thought it was a bit expensive, so the owner immediately took me to a section where earrings cost only 14 sol! Haha😆 Tomorrow, we will start exploring Machu Picchu, the part of the trip I am most looking forward to!

Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel located in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru on a 2,430-meter (7,970 ft) mountain ridge. Often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas", it is the most familiar icon of the Inca Empire. We took the earliest bus at 5.30am up to Machu Picchu entrance from the gateway town of Aquas Calientes to see the gorgeous sun rose above the mountains before the beautiful clouds disappeared revealing the breathtaking Incan ruins of Machu Picchu. We spent a good 3 hours walking around and taking amazing photos. There’s no toilet once you’ve passed the entrance so make sure you use the toilet at the entrance before hiking up. Also once you’ve started one of the hiking routes, you cannot turn back but must keep moving forward till the end of the route which takes you back to the entrance where drinks, food and toilets are available so pack a bottle of water or snacks if you need them along the way. This was our top bucket list ticked and an epic trip of a lifetime!#machupicchu #peru

#summerbreak If you have more than a week in Cusco and want to visit Machu Picchu, at the same time you want a little bit of adventure, make sure you visit Salkantay! Salkantay is a very strenuous hike and the Pass is definitely the hardest. On the second day of the trek, you will reach the highest point of the trek, which is the Salkantay Pass. There you will see snow-peaked mountains. If you are lucky, you can also spot some llamas and alpacas just roaming around the mountains and lakes! Hiking to the mountain is like watching an adventure movie! The hike is hard and it might feel hard at first but there are lots of companions along the way so it’s easy to find other fellow travelers! Don’t miss that trek out especially that the trek ends in Machu Picchu!

Most archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472). Often mistakenly referred to as the “Lost City of the Incas” (a title more accurately applied to Vilcabamba), it is the most familiar icon of Inca civilization. The 7th Wonder of the world was just that, the last one standing - we had been to all of the rest and after a couple of false starts we were on our way. After a train ride through the Andes that was priceless in itself - followed by an adrenaline filled bus ride on a track not much wider than the bus, we arrived at the entrance. Touching distance, but hold your horses another couple hundred steps on foot, and breathe. All of the superlatives used to describe Machu Picchu are correct. Most of the site is original and untouched since the sixteenth century when it was abandoned until 1911. The walls and terraces gives us a view into the past and into a culture that once thrived. Keen Astromers, Mathematicians and Engineers the Inca's literally built a city of stone in the sky that we can all enjoy five hundred years later. Tickets were reserved through the official site two and a half months in advance. The only available slot for the popular Route 2 was at 3 PM. For those planning a solo trip to Machu Picchu, it’s best to secure your entry ticket as early as possible. After booking the entry ticket, there were no issues reserving buses, trains, or accommodations. Around 2:30 PM, people with 3 PM reservations started gathering at the gate, but entry was strictly allowed from 3 PM onwards. We lined up first, hoping to take photos with fewer people, but quickly caught up with the 2 PM group, making it pointless to be at the front of the line. If you need a guide, there are plenty available at the entrance, including some who speak Japanese. In hindsight, it might have been better to explore with a guide for detailed explanations. Inside, there were lines at photo spots, but since there are many scenic spots, there’s no need to focus on just one. You can enjoy breathtaking views from various locations. Restaurants and snack bars are outside the entrance, but they are priced for tourists. Essential items to bring include your entry ticket (online tickets on smartphones are acceptable), passport, hat, sunscreen, water, and comfortable walking shoes. Although it’s crowded, taking your time to explore is recommended. Machu Picchu is truly an incredible and magnificent place, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s definitely a destination that can be visited independently.

・9am Bus from Ollantaytambo The bus journey reaches altitudes of over 4000 meters above sea level, offering stunning views. We sat next to the driver, which was ideal as the road was winding. If you're prone to motion sickness, I recommend taking medication to fully enjoy the scenery. ・20-minute Break at Arqueologico de Huamanmarca There’s a small shop where you can buy food. The bathroom facilities are very basic and not recommended. The archaeological site is just 100 meters away with free entrance, so you can opt for a quick visit. ・1:45pm Arrival at Hydroelectric Power Plant 10km Trekking Begins The first 200-300 meters involve steep steps, which some people may find challenging, but that’s the only difficult part. The rest of the trail is flat and easy to walk. Many people walk along the tracks, so you can simply follow the railway lines without needing a map. We encountered a train once but quickly noticed the signal and moved to the side of the tracks. 4:15pm Arrival at Aguas Calientes We are fast walkers, so it might take longer for the average person. The bus costs 80 soles per person for a round trip. We booked it at a shop in Ollantaytambo, which was easy to find. 9am Friday: Ollantaytambo to Hidroelectrica 2pm Sunday: Hidroelectrica to Cusco You can choose to return to Cusco or Ollantaytambo for the same price. The choice depends on the timing of your Machu Picchu ticket. If you can book an early morning ticket, it’s possible to book the next day’s bus. However, since our tickets were for the afternoon, we had to book the bus for the day after. The town of Aguas Calientes is very touristy and westernized. Prices are higher than in other towns in Peru. There’s not much to see apart from Machu Picchu. The town is filled with gift shops, restaurants, and currency exchange shops catering to tourists. On the positive side, they use electric cars, and the area is surrounded by greenery, so the air is fresh and free of pollution.

Sacred Valley is a valley between Cuzco and Machu Picchu. There are many important sites of Inca civilization in this area. If you take a one-day tour, you will usually visit 3 sites, terraces, salt pans and 2-3 rest stops showing traditional handicrafts. But we strongly do not recommend taking a one-day tour in Sacred Valley. It is even the worst tour experience we have in Central and South America. Because the process is very rushed, the stay time at the scenic spot is very short, especially the terraces and salt pans are usually the main photo spots when attracting guests, but they only stay for 5-10 minutes. Even our tour guide only let us see the salt pans on the far hillside viewing platform in order to rush, and did not go to the salt pans at all. The time spent at the rest stop may be longer than the time spent at the scenic spot😭So this route is recommended to charter a private group for a better visit experience. The town of Ollantaytambo is the outpost for everyone to Machu Picchu, and you will take the train here to Machu Picchu. There are also very important Inca sites in the town. Due to its prominent terrain, during the Spanish occupation, the Inca emperor used it as a base to resist the armed attacks of the Spaniards from Cuzco. The ruins have a large hinterland with terraces, the Temple of the Sun, granaries and military fortresses, most of which are made of large, neatly cut stones, which is very spectacular. We joined the Sacred Valley One-Day Tour and disbanded at O ​​Town, and then took the train to Aguas Calientes. We originally booked a later train to Machu Picchu, on the one hand because we were worried about any emergencies with the tour group, and on the other hand to reserve more time to stay in the ruins for a good visit. Opposite the ruins, there is a well-preserved Inca granary and a giant stone face of the creator Viracocha on the mountain wall. The Inca people used stones to block the sun and store food with the low temperature on the mountain. Viracocha is the creator god in Inca mythology. He created the earth, the sun, the moon, the stars, and also created humans with stones. The Inca Granary is currently free to visit, but the location on Google Map is not quite accurate and there is not much information. It is recommended that you go to the information on the square to get an introduction first so that you will not get lost. It only takes about an hour to climb the mountain to visit the Inca Granary and overlook the entire town. There are very few tourists and you can visit and enjoy the scenery leisurely. I highly recommend you to visit. In addition, if you stay in O Town for a long time, I also recommend you to eat and stroll in the market, especially the freshly made mixed juice in the market, which is fresh and substantial.
