2025 Vigan Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in July)

It was a trip to Vigan, Philippines with friends. We explored this charming city and discovered the best spots for photos and cultural immersion. We arrived in Vigan and immediately headed to Calle Crisologo, the heart of the city’s heritage. Walking down the cobblestone street felt like stepping back in time. The preserved Spanish-era houses 🏠 are perfect for taking pictures during the late afternoon when the sunlight softens, creating a warm glow. We stayed until the evening to capture photos of the street lit by antique lamps, a magical experience. 📍Calle Crisologo, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur We also visited Bantay Bell Tower, a historic watchtower offering panoramic views of Vigan and the surrounding countryside. The sunrise here is breathtaking 😍highly recommended for photographers and history enthusiasts alike 🙌🙌🙌 We then explored Hidden Garden, a peaceful haven filled with lush greenery and native plants🪴 We enjoyed taking pictures amidst the tropical surroundings and trying their refreshing Ilocano drinks at the on-site café 🍹 📍Bantay Church, Bantay, Ilocos Sur At night, we visited the Vigan Dancing Fountain in Plaza Salcedo. The lights, music, and water choreography were mesmerizing and made for stunning video captures. We’d recommend going early to get a good spot for viewing. Before leaving Vigan, we stopped by Vigan Cathedral (St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral). The grandeur of its architecture and serene atmosphere make it a must-visit for photos 📸 and quiet reflection. Vigan is located in Ilocos Sur.It’s known for its preserved Spanish colonial and Asian architecture. And because of its beauty and its well-preserved Spanish-era streets, Vigan has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Vigan is one of the oldest towns in the Philippines. If you go there you will experience the ancient feels of the city. You can not just enjoy the view, but Vigan can also make your tummy happy with the delicacies they have! If you are getting to Vigan via plane, you can book a flight from Manila to Laoag thru Cebu Pacific. After arriving in Laoag, you can take a bus with Laoag-Vigan route or buses heading to Manila then drop off at Vigan. This trip will take about 2 hours and will cost 100 PHP.

I had a short stay in Vigan City and enjoyed everything about it, except the rain… It was a travel back to a time when one would share cobblestone streets with horse-drawn carriages, flanked by old Spanish architecture, where the tallest structure is a watchtower atop a hill. But one gets jolted back to present Phililppines in the crowded central square where a pimped up karaoke machine on wheels beckons some shameless belting. What’s not to love? Getting There - There are 3 ways to get to Vigan! There’s an airport in Vigan with flights from Manila. For those trying to get there quicker than usual, this is the best option. Second is by bus! There are different bus lines in Manila that has trips to Vigan. You just have to know which lines to check their schedule. Lastly, if you wanna drive or go on a road trip. It’s a tiring option, but, for the adventurous traveler, this might be a good one. Attractions - The famous Calle Crisologo, no less! This is the center of tourism in the city. It feels like you’re taken back in time. A journey to the past because of it’s wonderful architecture and rich culture. There’s a museum as well as a farm owned by a rich family in Ilocos. Hotels - The hotels in Calle Crisologo are quite expensive. We chose one not too far, a good 700 meters away from Crisologo. Food & Restaurants - If you’re in Ilocos Sur, you might as well try their local food like bagnet, Vigan longganisa, poqui-poqui, and dinengdeng. Try their native coffee with balicotsa or hardened sugar cane syrup. If you have a kid and who likes animals a lot, BALUARTE in Vigan is the place to be. There is a wide variety of animals and mind you, you can have a close-up interaction with them. THERE IS NO EXEMPTION! as you see on the picture, we made it with the tiger, the bird, even with the snake (Actually we did but I missed where the picture is 😅). And the best part of it is to ride on the pony. To have this experience, you will have to pay 400pesos to have an all access to all the perks while if you would just want to get in, then just pay 200pesos. They also sell extraordinary flavors of ice cream and just outside the facility were differet souvenir shops where all goodies are all so affordable.

Location: H92G + GV7 Quirino boulevard, Tamag, Vigan city, Ilocos Sur Baluarte Mini Zoo and Safari is a zoological park in Vigan, Ilocos Sur in the Philippines. It is owned by one of the richest man in the province Mr. Chavit Singson. This 120 hectare expanse of Mr. Singson's lot also houses a taxidermy museum. It opened year 1991. They offer a guided tour around the zoo via electronic cab worth 50 pesos. Dont forget to check out the Safari gallery. Calle Crisologo is a must-see and must-experience place for history and fascination enthusiasts. Though it can get crowded on weekends and holidays, it does not prevent you from feeling as if you've traveled back in time. A walk on Calle Crisologo makes me feel like I lived in the old days. There are shops, restaurants, a hotel, and a museum lined up along the street. The price of the souvenirs is reasonably priced, and the costs of the food are also reasonable. You can make your own decision based on your budget. I'd suggest going in the evening. Vigan is one of the few Spanish colonial towns left in the Philippines whose old structures have mostly remained intact, and one of it is the Calle Crisologo, which is very famous tourist attraction in the Western Coast of the large Luzon island. You cant resist to drop by here to take photo, and since this area is the busiest in the city, better drop here during road trip early in the morning, or late in the evening (or blue hour) to capture the beauty of it. Things to do: 1, shopping along the road, there are lot of things to buy, souvenirs, delicacies especially their famous Bagnet(fried pork) and Empanada(looks like dumplings?😅) 2. Eating restaurants around the area especially when you just have a long drive from Manila, (it took us 6-8 hours drive going here), 3. Hidden Garden features a restaurant and a cafe in a relaxing setting filled with tropical plants and flowers, carved wooden sculptures, and lots of clay pots. The Bantay Bell Watchtower, or Bantay Belfry, is located in a little town called Bantay 10 minutes from Vigan City. Built in 1591, it once served as a watchtower for the Spanish colonists as a defense against the potential risk of invading pirates. The word 'bantay' means 'guard' in Tagalog; and even though the Bantay Watchtower was turned into a bell tower by the nearby church in 1857, it still was used as a watchtower during the two World Wars due to its strategic location. The Bantay Tower is also quite popular among the local tourists. Vigan Cathedral in Ilocus Sur (also known as St Paul's Metropolitan Cathedral) is an imposing creamy-white building built in the "earthquake baroque" style with thick buttresses to support it through earthquakes and typhoons. It faces Plaza Salcedo on one side and Plaza Burgos on another. A separate belltower (or belfry) was built 15 meters away from the main building (it actually stands in another plaza, Plaza Burgos) -- so that if one structure was destroyed in an earthquake, then the other might still remain standing. On the top of the hill is the Safari Gallery building which showcases the collections of hunted animals of Governor Singson.
