The Dafo ("Big Buddha") Temple of Xinchangwas built during Yonghe rule (CE 345- 357) period . 1,600 year-old Buddha that is 15 meters (50 feet) tall.It's nose is 1.5 meters long and The ears are longer than 2.7 meters. The Big Buddha Statue itself is located in a grotto, and is carved of a massive slab of granite Dafo Temple itself is constructed with five levels with several halls like the Heavenly King Hall, the Dafo (Big Buddha) Hall and the Scripture Hall. Around the temple site, there are other attractions such as the Free Life Pond, the Thousand Buddha Temple, and the Baoruo Valley (Prajna Valley). The Free Life Pond next to the temple reflects the surrounding trees and hills. You can see it as you enter through the gate. Xinchang is south of Shaoxing. There are direct buses from Shaoxing for 33 RMB. They arrive in about 1.5 hours. I visited The Chedi Xinchang in May this year and had a great experience, so I subsequently booked a night at The Chedi Ninghai to compare the two properties. P1-P5 The Chedi Xinchang P6-P10 The Chedi Ninghai 1. The Chedi Ninghai opened earlier, while The Chedi Xinchang was newly built in recent years, so the difference in newness is obvious. The washbasins at Ninghai show visible signs of use, making Xinchang slightly better in this aspect. 2. Both properties are located in relatively remote areas. For dining options beyond the hotels themselves, you need to drive some distance. The Chedi Xinchang requires a 20-minute mountain road drive to Xiayanbei Village, while The Chedi Ninghai also needs driving to reach the town. Both have similar transportation and surrounding facilities. 3. Both hotels offer activities like horse feeding, photography, and weaving. However, The Chedi Ninghai provides more exquisite afternoon tea, while Xinchang only offers one free cocktail. 4. The biggest feature of The Chedi Xinchang is Hanfei River, though it's more like a small stream. The Chedi Ninghai focuses on bamboo as its characteristic, making you feel like being in an endless bamboo sea, far from city noise. 5. The Chedi Xinchang is located within a scenic area, where hotel shuttle service suffices. The Chedi Ninghai covers a vast area, requiring first a hotel bus then a shuttle transfer, making access relatively less convenient. Both properties have their own merits. Personally, I prefer The Chedi Xinchang because: first, the new hotel indeed gives better sensory experience; second, it pays more attention to details, such as providing free charging stations, complimentary meals and gifts for departing guests.

The spacious suite features a private balcony perfect for enjoying the scenery. Special praise goes to the hotel's bedding—the mattress was just the right firmness, ensuring a truly restful night's sleep. The hotel's equestrian center houses four horses and two rabbits. You can buy some carrots to interact with the animals or even try horseback riding lessons. In the evening, head to the poolside bar for a cocktail or indulge in a spa treatment, fully embracing the tranquil nights at Nineteen Peaks.
